But aliens in *modern* times I'm a little more open to...

What are the odds that the first ever appearance of aliens on Earth happened these past few millennia as opposed to having happened in one of the previous millennia?

I like that you're open to correction, but you just might need some training in how to do research properly and exercise critical thinking better, I don't know. I've had to learn actively how to be good at critical thinking, def not something that came to me naturally.

the important thing is one’s judgement of whether something is likely to be true should not be affected at all by one’s subjective sense of how cool it would be if it were true, nor one’s moral preference that the world needs it to be true to be better.

if it is not true, it is not true . the latter two factors are just worthless noise.

preference and morality must give way to objective fact. not the other way around

I've devoted 65 years to an ever more intense study of WWII. I see some folks viewing that war at the same level as my seven year old self did. Sadly they probably won't have several decades to catch up.
