Scrupulosity - a Catholic disorder ?

There is a phenomenon / disorder which I have only seen in Catholic circles (it must exist elsewhere also)  but we see it in NX's post today about swearing/ blasphemy. 
There is something about the RC neurotic legalisms which seems to appeal to a wide audience in Roman Catholicism. For example "Catholic Answers" is full of questions to the priests and other "experts" (funny I've never been banned there, but almost) and a number of us some time ago, on AD (sorry TTA) were banned at Suscipe Domine, ("dummy knee"). Anyone seen this anywhere else ? It's probably an OC Disorder.   An interesting religious phenomenon.

In my travels around forums like r/atheism and ExChristian.net, I've seen multiple examples of people asking for help because they think they've doomed themselves to hell. (The majority of these are based on a perception that they've somehow committed the Unforgivable Sin, but occasionally it's an intrusive thought that's triggered this.) A lot of them are from the Evangelical community.

I went through that when I was about fifteen I think... inconsolable for days or weeks, can't remember which, thinking I'd committed the unforgivable sin. Not Catholic though... I was a Protestant.
