Militant Atheism?
RE: Militant Atheism?

People will often cling to communities of like-minded people, whether that be religious, political, philosophical, fanbase, etc. Especially in this age of the internet where you can easily connect with niche communities that you may not have been able to find in-person. Atheist communities often express contempt towards religion (anti-theism) and there is a correlation to more naturalistic views of the world/metaphysics as well as political affiliation. I wouldn't fault anyone for making that connection. The reasons are often connected to many being ex-Christian, ex-Muslim, etc, many are still in their religious communities (and "closeted" so to speak), and so there is a lack of these like-minded people and no places to vent or voice their opinions on the matter (without some community repercussions anyways), so the internet is an attractive (and anonymous) place for that. Many will form their opinions there, and you will then have that community of like-minded people.

My simple two cents.

So what do you think should done with ... people ... who come into such communities with the sole intent of being utter assholes?

Community moderation would ideally take care of them I suppose.

I loath organized religion [1] but I think I loath politics just as much. A lot of what I see wrong with organized religion is political. Atheists often accuse me of being anti-science, but I'm not at all. I'm anti-corruption. Religion, politics and science are devastatingly corrupted.  The only solution, temporarily and as much is possible to solve mankind's problems (only Jehovah can do that completely) would be to get rid of money. Get rid of the financial incentive to corrupt.

While you may be banned, it will not be because you're a theist (no matter your preemptive protestations), but because you ran afoul of the rules. We have theist member who have been here even longer than I have. I figure you for 6-months max before you jump the shark and commit suicide by admin.

Despite your delusions, you're not so clever as you think.

If it's true that the powers that be on this forum don't use the rules to justify their banning anyone who pisses the regulars off simply for being theistic or disagreeing with their atheism or sociopolitical ideology then I will in all likelihood get bored and quietly stop posting. Perhaps returning sometime later, as I already have done, apparently. I came here to register and was informed I already had an active membership, much to my surprise.

I don't usually do death by admin anymore, it's too much work and too juvenile. I used to. Used to get a kick out of it. Go out with a bang. Fuck 'em. Not any more.

Oh, and like I've said before, I don't see myself as clever. I consider myself to have the intellectual capacity of Winnie the Pooh. That isn't false modesty. I see myself and everyone around me as idiots. That includes you and everyone here. I just happen to know more than most about the Bible without the pagan nonsense of organized religion.

You've been boring from the start.

First of all if I were to see banning as necessary I would probably ban the people that think anyone who thinks different than they do are utter assholes first. Being an asshole is human nature. So, in a theist forum I would, if forced by popular demand, to ban atheists just for being atheists I would ban the theists instead.

If someone is an utter asshole ignore them or play along with them which makes you an asshole as well. Be honest and fair about that. If it disrupts the forum, and I mean it really disrupts the forum, I don't mean it gets the atheists or theists panties in a bind because they're fucking idiots, then warn, temporarily ban, etc. Eventually, if someone keeps coming back and doing the same thing you may have to get rid of them.

I personally tend to recoil from political correctness or phony "Christian" niceties more than assholery.

Aww. That why you keep talking to me? You feel sorry for me? Maybe. Just a little?

I like boring. I prefer boring. I am boring.

Well spoken.

I don't fit anywhere. In the "real world" that's great. I prefer to be alone. I'm able to do that almost completely. I understand hatred for theism or atheism. The Bible makes use of hatred in various ways. I hate just about everyone and everything. In a righteous sense, meaning specifically that I want nothing to do with it. An unrighteous application of hate from the Biblical perspective is to wish harm upon someone or something. I never do that. While I think blowing off steam can be healthy I don't think harboring contempt for something, whether it be theism or atheism or whatever, is healthy.

When I first got online in the mid 1990s unbelievers would accuse me of hiding behind anonymity. I started posting my real street address, email, name and phone number on forums I posted on.
