Help needed with essay on atheism
|
Far too many to count although if you want to look around this board is probably littered with plenty of rants against them.
Usually they get all huffy because they live in an environment where their beliefs are at the least "respected." Thus they do not handle overt disrespect very well. This board is clearly labeled and if they think that all they have to do is walk in and sprinkle a little jesus dust around they are going to be very disappointed. Do you think it is necessary to both show and handle overt disrespect? Is that an important thing to you?
It's a tactic. I have found it useful.
BTW, if your "essay" goes much beyond "atheism is a lack of belief in gods" then you are getting into murky ground. There are plenty of atheists here who do not engage the theists at all. Either they don't enjoy the verbal banter or simply want nothing to do with them. In either case, avoid generalizations. They will invariably be wrong. I enjoy fucking with them.
It's not my job to make superstitious twits feel good about themselves. If they want that, there are plenty of religious themed boards for them to haunt.
Not really. I was born catholic but effectively quit when I was 12. My dad didn't want to get up on Sunday mornings to take me to church....and I preferred to sleep in, too.
I have a very good friend who is a southern baptist, though. Once in a while she lets it slip that she prays for me. I tease her about it gently but we don't talk about religion much. Otherwise, no. My grandmother was a devout catholic. She had a big fucking crucifix on her living room wall with pictures of the pope and Liberace under each arm. No one had the heart to tell her that Liberace was queer and the pope protected child molesters. She would not have believed either statement. (April 23, 2011 at 7:22 pm)Minimalist Wrote: Not really. If someone had told her, how would you have felt? I think most probably did not click on it, but I know what you are saying. How are we to help if we have no idea what it is about. Thusfar, I think we are helping him compose a treatise on why and how atheists are unfeeling bastards. ![]() |
