I've just been banned
April 24, 2011 at 11:00 am
(This post was last modified: April 24, 2011 at 11:01 am by Garmston Ansell.)
I've been on http://www.atheistforums.com doing pretty much what I'm doing here, simply asking for help for my essay. Just a few minutes ago however I was banned.
If anyone is interested, go over there and take a look at the thread called "help needed for essay on atheism" (in the general discussion section) and see if you can explain why I was banned. Please take note of the mass abuse by some members. My username there was Gissy Readmone.

Well, can't say I'm surprised.
You received several warnings and ignored them.
I suggest you learn from your experience.
If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

No, I didn't receive any warnings, formally or informally.

Seems to me they think you are a theist trolling under the guise of "fence sitting" - I see no reason to believe that at this stage although you do come off as one slightly, though you come off as a troll to about the same extent than you come off as someone with English as a second language.
If you are a troll you are a very entertaining and witty one, making them all angry over nothing

If I was I suppose I'd be very proud, but they're doing it to themselves. They're very horrible people. They're very suspicious of folks who aren't like them, and I get the feeling they'd turn on each other just as easily as they would a newcomer. On the day that I joined, which was just a couple of days ago, someone actually requested to have their thread removed, that's how bad the abuse was. And this "noreligion" character is a very nasty, obnoxious piece of work. The admins are jerks too.

I hung out on those forums before I found these ones, some of them were pretty cool but most of them were obnoxious twats (not like I'm completely immune to that), so I left and found these forums, I haven't left, so at least that's one subjective account of the superiority of AF.org
Just out of curiosity, what exactly did you send to NoReligion?

I can't remember exactly but it was either a general question for the essay or asking him to calm down. Either way he responded like a twat. You can't really win with idiots like that because they know they're on a forum where they'll always be defended right to the end, and if you give them a piece of your mind you're the bad guy, and if you act calm and ignore the bullshit, you're a troll who's quietly enjoying it all. That's why I sometimes dislike forums where everyone is united by a common theme, especially an emotive one or one that can define a person's self identity, which I think applies to atheism just as much as religions. There's a real "villagers with pitchforks" mentality there. At the risk of casting suspicion on myself by saying this, I'm not surprised that forums like that get trolled a lot. They really do ask for it. Some people have no idea how to run a forum properly, they don't seem to realise that there are most probably a lot of people lurking, and being put off joining, or worse, deciding to have a little fun of their own.
And check this out. I haven't read it myself but I will in a second. This guy (Hytegia) also thinks I'm trolling. Like I say, you go on a forum to ask questions and out come the pitchforks.

Stick your dick in the garbage disposal, turn it on, and curse your fate. Sounds like a plan.

Good points.

Why do you use a different user name on each forum? That is rather trollish.

I just felt like using different names. I mean, if I'd used the same name, there would still be suspicion of me being a troll. You can't win.
