Of course he’s a martyr. The fact that he was a repressive, fanatical, murderous thug is neither here nor there. Being a nice person is not and has never been a prerequisite for martyrdom.

Neither trump nor netanyahu are populist leaders. They're fascists and imperialists with second one being also guilty of genocide. There are no good deeds they could surprise anyone with.
Also while Iranian regime is distasteful to say it lightly it does not give orange fascist and genocidal scum right to attack it. If scuminess would be appropriate casus belli then israel being guilty of genocide certainly should be attacked before Iran.

I never said that he wasn't a complete bastard. That you think it will somehow prevent his martyrdom merely highlights your ignorance of history and human behaviour. Martyrdom of bastards by bastards is the problem.

Right-wing people too. And it's cute that you call it a 'military intervention'. Sounds so much more sanitary. Not like we're dropping bombs on them, blowing up schools and all that. Nah, we just got together with a bunch of our friends and sat down with them in a safe space.

Your expectations have never played out before. I'm expecting something closer to Libya. Private Heelspurs will drop a few bombs and then do what his father ought to have done and pull out, leaving a total fucking mess in his wake and claiming victory.

I tend to agree. The two most likely outcomes are either Trump ends the operation once his poll numbers climb (leaving that mess you mentioned), or he’s going to make this an open-ended commitment, similar to Afghanistan.
I suspect the first scenario is more likely, but either way it’s a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

There will not be any boots on the ground, and an open-ended commitment to operations will split the Republican party as the isolationists and the neocons have their mutual hostility aggravated.

Which is why I expect him to pack up and leave sooner rather than later. He’ll make a fuckton of false claims about operational successes and declare victory.

Brent crude is poised to hit US$77/bbl. A year ago, it was $58, a 32% increase. Golly, I wonder what could have caused that…

Quote:Kuwait “mistakenly” shot down three U.S. F-15 fighter jets on Sunday after strikes were launched against Iran one day earlier, according to U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
Centcom said in a statement obtained by The Hill’s sister network NewsNation that the fighter jets were downed in Kuwait shortly after 11 p.m. EST Sunday.
The jets “were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses,” according to the statement.
The six service members who were on board the jets “ejected safely,” Centcom added, and are “in stable condition.”

Footage of one of the shootdowns in this article:
Quote:The battlespace is extremely complex, and the threat of friendly fire is very real, considering how many missiles and drones Iran is firing west and how much damage those weapons can do, as well as all the tactical aircraft coming and going. It isn’t clear if the incident had anything to do with Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia signaling they may jump into the fight, even in a defensive manner. Doing so is more complicated than it sounds, and the U.S. and Israel may push to see that this does not happen, as deconflicting the airspace and integrating other allies into carefully crafted battle plans is extremely challenging at this stage and fraught with risk. This is exactly what I mentioned on X earlier tonight prior to this incident.
[...]
U.S. Central Command has confirmed that, on March 1, three U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury went down over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident. The CENTCOM statement continued:
“During active combat — that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones — the U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses.”
CENTCOM said that all six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in a stable condition.
