China isn't likely to play world police as much as play the shady loan shark. The scray thing is chinese loan sharking in Africa may actually be doing Africa more good then the "principled" western financing.

BTW, I am not sure what the meaning of the phrase in the title "world economic core", is.

China may be the single largest economy amongst nation states, but the European Union would still be bigger overall, and proporational to respective economies, not only export more than China, but add much more value than chinese trade. The total value of goods and services traded around the Atlantic will still far exceed the total trade centered around China. It won't be for at least another 20 years before Chinese trade might rival translatic trade in the overall scheme of world economy

Eventhough a selected Chinese few industry might become world class by 2016, the overall Chinese economy, including all the shielded somestic sectors, although rapidly exiting the basic low valuing walmart goods catagory, would still be relatively inefficient and backwards compare to Europe, America and Japan, adding relatively little value for the value it consumes. Size not withstanding, it would be at least another 30-40 years before China can become a fully developed economy able to compete across the board with Europe, America, Japan, or even South Korea.

Reading all the various posts - it seems the majority of you all would love to see the demise of the USA's economic power.

Oddly enough, if we (the US) were to fall to say, 5th or 6th in the economic hierarchy of the world and no longer had the means to police the world, and no longer kept our military forces parading around other people's countries, and no longer had the money to give billions away in aid to the starving nations of the world, and no longer had to bail other countries out when mother nature stepped on them .... hell, I'd be as happy as you people. The USA has been on top long enough. You think China can do better? You think anybody can do better? Good luck. Many many Americans would be more than happy to give away our role of "world police". Everybody hates you when you're at the top. You can have it.

By the way our entire midwest has been flooded and hit with hundreds of tornadoes these last two months. Billions in damages ... who's sending us assistance?

Nobody.

Quote:As China need more oil, American dollars poured into the Pentagon to better protect the safety of oil shiekdoms and the traquility of world maritime oil trade will increasingly secure China's access to cheap oil, greatly reduce China's military burden to protect its own oil trade routes, and allow China to devote bigger portions of its bigger economy to kick our ass in non-military ways.

This is one of the few cases where a military build up on the part of one competitor actually allows the other competitor to reduce arms expenditure.

That's the EU plan, let the americans pay for the army bill while we waste our cash on more productive crap.

The CIA admitted that the EU is world biggest market( and it's absorbing other markets growing bigger)

Also china is trying to boost it's internal market and has been the negative for the first time since a long time

It's moronic of us in the first place to raise up our enemies and help them recover after natural disasters and wars and whatnot.

The world does not need police... the world needs nations that exist on their own merits.

It's not all great and wonderful being top dog. Anything bad that happens, you'll be expected to help because you have all the power and influence. Also, it's easy to blame the big feller.
Like leaders, if things don't go the way they should in a country, there'll be lots of fingers aimed at you.
If I was offered power like that, I'd gladly turn it down and run for the hills. Better to be little in power and have no outside expectations. Less attention, less fighting, less spending...more for you to do as you wish.

You know, if you lovely Americans really started cutting back in military and in other places and really pull it all back and remove yourself from power yourselves, I'd reckon you'd all be a lot happier as a result, not to mention a more stable economy. Be doing yourselves a big favour when you think about it. You've had your turn as world police, let someone else do it and relax more. Besides, you're gonna fall from power anyway. Why not? More expensive trying to remain top dog, like trying to paddle your boat up an endless fast stream. Gonna have to give in at some point.Big Grin

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Let's Americans not try and play the martyr. We are everywhere in the world for the following reason:

1. We could afford to in 1950 and thought we needed to and were justified to stick a foot in every place where we imagine the Soviets could install a communist government and rally the place against our "free world"

2. Now that we could no longer afford to, we act like Napoleon and Hitler at their resource's end before Moscow. Inspite of ever more pressing need to retreat to more defensible winter quarters, we are smitten by the glorious highwater mark that iour rising tide had briefly wetted 1990-2000, and shovel in ever more of our dwindling resources to try to shore up our tide just a little bit long out of the fear and when it receed, it would receed for good.
