The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

When I was 20 we all thought John Lennon was profound. He wasn't. He was facile at best, patronising at worst, a clever popular musician in touch with his times.

Profound isnt a word I would use to describe Lennon. Smart and talented comes to mind. Good with advertising himself. I think all of his lyrics about peace and love were very much heartfelt and that he was serious when he sang them, but of course he is also wanting money. He is going to get paid.

I find it difficult to say bad things about Lennon: I didnt care much about him hanging around communists. All of the women in the world and he picked Yoko Ono? I would have grabbed me a Swedish model. The quality of his music drastically dropped when he went solo. He was rubbing elbows with fans outside his home usually on the same days and same times, making a consistent schedule, making it easy for some freak to do harm to him and his family and friends...especially since he was politically active and vocal about it. He should have known better. *sigh* it cost him his life.

Thats probably the worst I can say about him

I was born in Liverpool and went to the same school as John Lennon after he had left ( I was born 9 years later than him ).
It's pretty pointless debating which is the best ever Beatles song.....they were simply genius and music is so subjective.
As regards Lennon himself, he was political for a time. I believe it was genuine and he campaigned for peace at the height of the Viet Nam tragedy when others could have but didn't.... Good enough for me.
HuhA man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

But he made beautiful music and said some things that needed to be said through his songs. Strawberry Fields Forever is one of my favorite Beatles songs, though there are so many of them I love I couldn't name an absolute favorite. My least favorite Beatles song, however, is Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds; everyone loves it, but it bores me to death. lol

Lennon was certainly right about the Beatles being bigger than friggin' jesus.

I think Lennon was profound for his time. As for being 'bigger than Jesus'...? No, that was just a stupid comment he made. lol

No one ever heard of your alleged jesus while he was "alive."

Lennon was right. Everyone knew who the Beatles were.

Actually, THAT was one of the few profound things John Lennon ever said. It was also true.
