When I was 20 we all thought John Lennon was profound. He wasn't. He was facile at best, patronising at worst, a clever popular musician in touch with his times.
Profound isnt a word I would use to describe Lennon. Smart and talented comes to mind. Good with advertising himself. I think all of his lyrics about peace and love were very much heartfelt and that he was serious when he sang them, but of course he is also wanting money. He is going to get paid.
I find it difficult to say bad things about Lennon: I didnt care much about him hanging around communists. All of the women in the world and he picked Yoko Ono? I would have grabbed me a Swedish model. The quality of his music drastically dropped when he went solo. He was rubbing elbows with fans outside his home usually on the same days and same times, making a consistent schedule, making it easy for some freak to do harm to him and his family and friends...especially since he was politically active and vocal about it. He should have known better. *sigh* it cost him his life.
Thats probably the worst I can say about him
