It was bugging the hell out of me; the thing was constantly broken. If we can find one that isn't so crap, we'll install it. Until then, we're shoutboxless.

We should find one that isn't so crap, and install it! WITH AVATARS! And also some nitroglycerin, if you don't mind Sleepy

Anybody ever consider a status box instead. One that stays up on all the main pages except in the threads themselves.

Thats the problem with MyBB. I dont mess with it, and if a webdesign cutomer wants a forum, I suggest SMF.

Now, some people dont like SMF, but their community is much more active in upgrading it than most others.

I've tried a lot of forum software, and MyBB is the best I've come across so far. I used to work on the dev team for it, so I know the inner workings very well. I'm not prepared to change software simply to get access to better Shoutbox plugins. If we don't find one, I'll dedicate some of my spare time over the summer to creating one.
