Now if only every religious person did the same rather than blindly following like sheep we might actually be getting somewhere.
I think it's amazing how even young people can understand how ludicrous some of the ideas are behind something such as the bible. Yet grown men in their 50's will continue to defend it.
I guess we're all stupid and must be missing something :S
My favourite question/s is Why does god choose only certain people to spread his message? Why does he not just speak to us all simultaneously to clear up all doubt?
To be honest, I don't see how any average minded individual couldn't find The Bible ludicrouse in every way. It contains complete contradictions to the Christians beliefs, i.e: "The commandments say thou shall not kill. God decided to drowned his children." I guess some individuals are just too weak to picture a life without "god" as a crutch.

Mmm, not the question I ask because I don't care about the "why",only the "what"
Therefore,I simply ask to be shown the evidence for the claims made by believers. So far, nobody has managed to provide any.[in recorded history]

Doing this you'll 'debunk' everything.
Why do we live? Because we were born. Why? Because our parents had sex? Why? To make children. Why? Because they wanted a family. Why? They wanted to fulfil their goals for life. Why? Because they wanted to be happy. Why? Because it's more enjoyable to live happy. Why? Because the stimuli released by the brain that we refer to has 'happiness' tends to suggest we are functioning properly and free from danger. Why? Because the body has evolved mechanisms for monitoring it's self. Why? So it can better survive. Why? So it is more likely to reproduce. why? To pass on it's genes. Why? Etc...

Yes, very true. All you need to ask is "why?" and an ounce of common sense never hurts either.

That's one of the more common factually incorrect atheist arguments, "there is no evidence", people frequently report evidence for God, notably personal experience, it's just poor quality evidence (as in 'blurry photo in a forest of some big hominid looking thing is 'poor quality' evidence for Bigfoot') - it leads to innumerable contradictory conclusions, it doesn't converge on a single answer, it's better explained by known phenomenon of dreams, delusion and misattribution of subconscious phenomenon to an external force, it's not verifiable etc.

Being a deist - my "why question" is simply, Why Bother?
If there is/was a creator - why would he care about the actions in our silly mundane lives?? Why would god care about who you're fucking? or what you're drinking? what you're piercing? the music you listen to? what you do on Sundays? or what movie you went to see?
Why would God even bother with setting up sin, sacrifices, redemption, atonement and condemnation after making you what you are??
Why bother? Answer -- He wouldn't.
Religion is stupid. The devout are brainwashed, and sacred books have no more credibility than The Brother's Grimm.

I'd be careful talking about 'common sense', it's a bit of a joke, it's basically what people commonly believe is true without reason. Everyone is quick to claim that common sense is on their side, especially for beliefs they feel strongly about, most theists probably think the existence of god is common sense - It's better just to reject the notion outright and focus on reasons for belief.

You're more than a touch hypocritical here Cinjin, I could just as easily ask you "why would he create a universe?" or "why would he create life?". Answer -- He didn't, he doesn't exist.

Boredom is a fantastic motivator.

Yep - that's a fair perception. Belief in anything unseen does tend to make one hypocritical in some way or another because my beliefs are no more valid than anyone else's. That's the inevitable illogical conclusion and paradox to who I am. I have found no way around it.
The difference that seems to make me tolerable is that I'm not going around claiming I have proof, spouting ridiculous assertions about the age of the world, condemning others to hell, and denying contradictions with "author's original context" arguments. In short, I don't claim to actually know God.
...and without deism - I would (and possibly will) default to atheism. I will be the first to concede that God may not exist. It is an impossible thing to prove. For now however, Deism allows me the small amount of faith I always wanted and the ability to ridicule silly books about goat herders and superstition.
