It's a good thing there are no right wing nutters in Parliament. America's legislative branch should take notes. /sarcasm
Politics is full of nuts. Each party claims to represent their people, which means a wholly different philosophy regarding how to run the country than is espoused by the other party. And all the while, breaking the country in half, all of those Congressmen and Senators know it's they who run the country, pull the strings, and watch even the President dance to their tune.
When behind the scenes, as I've seen with Biden, those in opposition to one another, Democrats and Republicans, are very often the best of friends. While the conflict before the camera's and on the floor, as what CSpan covers, is all for show. Because the electorate may be watching and we want our vote to look like it counts. As our choice appears to fight for what we want. When really it's more about what lobbyists bought, special interests invested in and corporations benefit from.
And that's just in America. Governments and their power brokers all over the world commit to the same song and dance. It's why we see these poor begging front men asking us to send money to starving children in Africa and other impoverished places. Nothing pulls at the heart like a child or even an animal suffering. While ignoring those camera points of view, if one could look behind them and follow the trail back to the cause of all that poverty they'd see the King of the country, the leader, the dictator, etc... living like a god.
Just like here. Budget cuts, raising the debt ceiling, possible tax increase. Work harder to net less. Medicare, medicaid, social security, veterans benefits. All subjects of the chopping block in order to get the deficit down and come to an accord on a working budget. While in all these weeks amid all the chest pounding and hot air from both sides, including the speaker himself and even Obama not once has it been suggested that all three branches, legislative, judicial and administrative, take a salary cut across the board. While with regard to the legislative branch, cost of living pay raise votes be rescinded for 4 years.
Because if we who voted them in have to cut corners, they who made that necessary shouldn't get a raise to live higher on the hog than they already do, as a reward for making that possible.
It's politics. With or without a British accent to condemn what's going on in politics across the pond amid the yanks doesn't matter a hill of beans. Politicians all hold one thing in common the world over. They all blow.
While the one thing they all seem to forget is, if it wasn't for the working class they'd be nothing.
"In life you can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. When you go through your day expressing kindness and courtesy to all you meet, you leave behind a feeling of warmth and good cheer, and you help alleviate the burdens everyone is struggling with."

I like Vince Cable, he still opposes the Tories when he can (I btw and not a lib dem). He's a very smart man. He didn't sell out, that was Nick Clegg the boot black. Either way they are stopping the Tory scum doing exactly what they want and making sure things don't go to far right.
Still, they'll never get my vote.
