Fox News and Facebook
I saw Treadmill had already posted about the Cross at the 9/11 sight, but I wanted to bring this up in a new post because it bothers the hell out of me. I've seen various pieces of it passed around, but I'm posting the one from the AA blog in case any new members would like to check out the rest of it. Dave Silverman is a good guy.

http://atheists.org/blog/2011/07/29/fox-...t-atheists

It's amazing what people will post when they feel safe online, far away from having to actually face an atheist (that they know of).

Even more amazing that the same people who so casually say this, also cry out against Muslims for being "all violent."

One of the most gentle and caring men I've ever met is a Christian, and I'm glad I have him as a friend...otherwise I think the downward spiral I've been on in the tolerance slide since our failed end-of-the-world would be hastened.

I'm willing to have one of our Christians post examples of atheists doing the same thing, if they can find it. And then I'd like to discuss why we feel it's okay to wish for the deaths of random people who have not caused physical harm to you or your own.

Wow those comments are truly disturbing.

Now I will use my ESP to determine where this thread will go. *Closes eyes and rubs temples*

I see a 'no true scotsman' argument in our future.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I didn't know that the atheist call to jihad had already went out. Are there people seriously advocating genocide in this world while raising the banner of atheism?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

That's what I'm asking - does the lack of religion still produce the same results when people are angry?

RE: Fox News and Facebook
what a surprise... Christians are violent assholes too. shocking.

I wish the AA would pick and choose it's battles better. Who gives a shit if New York wants to put two pieces of iron perpendicular to each other up in the air to mark a place where a lot of people were killed?

It's not like I don't drive by a dozen damn churches every day. Who the fuck cares.

Do we have to place a religious symbol over a place of tragedy to commemorate it?

Christians were only part of the equation in that tragedy...isn't there some way to memorialize it without excluding - or rather do it in a way that includes everyone?

Agreed. All I'm saying is let the muslims or the hindus or any other group fight that cause. It seems like small potatoes for AA to take issue with.

My humble opinion of course.

Religion is like a Penis, you shouldn't whip it out in public and you shouldn't shove it down your child's throat.

When you post something on facebook:

When you hit the "add" button to add the link to the post, it moves it to a screen that shows a description of the link and a thumbnail. The thumbnail will have two little arrow keys directly to the right of it - if there's a choice of thumbnails with the link because there are many pictures or avatars, you should be able to click through to the one you prefer before you hit the "post" button.
