The french rich ask for a tax on...themselves
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14646975

Quote:Some of France's wealthiest people have called on the government to tackle its deficit by raising taxes - on the rich.

Sixteen executives, including Europe's richest woman, the L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, offered in an open letter to pay a "special contribution" in a spirit of "solidarity".

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

Let the news trickle into Fox. I'll take bets on reactions.

This must sound so foreign and stupid to The Tea Party/GOP.

I don't think the answer is raising taxes on all the rich; rather, why not set up some kind of government fund where anyone can donate money to help the deficit?

If the rich want to pay more in taxes, why not simply let them pay certain amounts directly to the government. That way the ones that want to help out can do it, and the ones that want to keep hold of their investments can go about things as before. Forcing people to pay more for their successes is only going to alienate them, and possibly make them consider pulling their business interests out of the country itself, which in a time of economic crisis really isn't the best idea...

Do they rich have a greater vested interest in the system? Do they profit more from the system? Do I utilize the interstate roadways or naval protection of shipping lanes as much as shipping magnate? I think not. So why are my taxes a greater ratio of my income than his? Am I subsidizing his wealth? Yup.

(Nothing against the rich, I'm not exactly poor, and I do hope to be filthy rich someday)

"Give me what I want or I'll take my ball and leave (and leave you destitute in the process)"

Go ahead. I'd rather be a lord-less peasant than a wealthy servant on the land of his royal fucking majesty.

French socialists, to boot. This Fox News report almost writes itself.

It has to. If they had to spend any real time, effort, or resources digging up actual news, and researching actual events, they'd be as strapped as NPR...lol.

In other words.."we should not EXPECT the rich to pay their fair share. We should allow people who want to be greedy and anti-social to continue their rape of our society...because one day I may become ultra rich and powerful, and by God I would be a greedy asshole in that situation."

History has shown time and time again that when you lower the taxes on the rich, then all of societies quality of life drops as well. But, then again, trying to explain that to a libertarian is like trying to explain "burdon of proof" to a creationist.

Just watched a bit on fox news were they were trying to define "poor" out of existence by suggesting that Refridgerators is something that poor people should not be able to afford. And since their poll said that 96% of "the poor" (which was in parenthesis on the program) own refridgerators, they should not be called "the poor".

I say tax the FUCK out of the rich. But, then again, I actually care about society as a whole, as opposed to only giving a fuck about myself.
