It seems like a few of you here are into it and I figured I might could get some suggestions from you. I'm haveing trouble finding games I enjoy. I believe I'm looking for mmorpg. The two I can think of closest to what I'm looking for is runescape(played it when I was younger) and a game called wonderland or WLO. I'm addicted to games where you can mine and make things for yourself. Not the standard kill things, make money, bug from shops. Both of the games I listed above. ESP the second have a large aspect of that. I was just wondering if anyone knows of anymore.

Eve Online has the most in depth crafting experience in mmo's currently. Entire research lines are devoted to resource collection (both ships and structures). More to production, and operating production facilities. Yet more time to learn to exploit or predict the player driven market. It's essentially a dystopia based on corporations leveraging immortal mercenaries in highly advanced spacecraft to wage for-profit wars without any oversight whatsoever. Sandbox MMO.

Good 'traditional' MMORPGs (all of these have some (perhaps crude) form of crafting and resource collecting):

*Rift (played). Benefits: Painless world grouping, server communities intact (or were before I stopped), essentially limitless soul builds that you design yourself--> http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html? Seriously, it's amazing. Also, there are 4 roles in the game (Healing, Support, Tank, and DPS), which is awesome

*World of Warcraft (played). Benefits: 30 solidly built playstyles with some semblance of 'balance' (and though I quit WoW, i still find many of these quite fun, such as Combat Rogue, Fire Mage, healing on every class that can heal and with priest's both sets of healing, retribution paladin, both warrior and paladin tanking), a cross-server dungeon finder ensures usually fairly fast grouping. One serious problem for me with World of Warcraft is that it is very much an RPG... but there is no sense of community left... at all. Phasing chops the server population up according to the quests they've completed, and the XSDFinder leaves one to associate more with (usually asshole) people from other servers than their own server.

Simply: Never go into World of Warcraft expecting a great deal of social gratification... it is a solo-played game with humans as the AI you interact positively with (or compete with, in the case of PvP). Also: World of Warcraft requires modding to stay on par with games such as Rift: You need either Grid or Healbot for healing, you need Omen (and often some form of Dungeon Boss mod) for tanking and DPS, and you'll never know how well you are doing (numbers-wise) without Damage Meters (such as Recount).

*Everquest2 (never played). All I know about EQ2 is that it is good enough to have an exfriend of mine play it instead of WoW (not long before I left for Rift, he left for EQ2).

*Terra gets special mention on its positioning-based gameplay, which sounds fucking awesome, and is well implemented. No more just having the tank take that dragon's fire... he gets to jump out of the way if he doesn't want to end up as roast chicken Not to mention the player-driven politics system, which is by itself awesome for a sense of community. Hell, if I hadn't given up on online gaming (for now), this is the game I'd be checking out, since with Trion releasing a XSDFinder on Rift I strongly fear it will go the same way of WoW.

Good FFA MMO:

EVE Online. Is just as Rhythm says. And the battles in the game are very long and somewhat tactical. EVE is one of those games you can play in a second window while you're working on something else, and check it every 5-10 minutes

Diablo 2 (played)+expansion (played) is a game I would play right now solo. If you don't know what Diablo 2 is: you cannot call yourself a gamer. Seriously.

Torchlight is a game very similar to Diablo 2, although I believe Diablo 2 is superior.

Diablo 3... is going to be awesome.

League of Legends... is very similar to DotA and SotIS... so naturally it is a solid game.

There's a new MMORTS out by Trion, and it is probably good... but this is a game-type beyond untested. Closest I can come to imagining it is a game of starcraft on a massive map with 50 players

You should check out Terraria; it is cheap, simple, and really fun.

It isn't an MMO-anything but it can be played with other people.
