I've been having the same feeling of late.

Hey aleialoura! Hang in there and vent here if needed. We'll listen. Some might even give advice
Welcome to AF! ^_^
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

Carl Sagan reference. Always a win. Welcome to the forums.

Hi,
That is shocking, I am from the UK, I never realised that sort of thing went on in the states this day and age. You should be proud of having your own mind.

Aleialoura
G'day and welcome from Adelaide SOUTH Australia---but,before you go getting all excited, remember I'm in the Southern hemisphere.
Here we have "The Deep North", referring to the state of Queensland. It's our bible belt ,where most members of the lunar right live and where we keep the ferals*
Oh, as for being dysfunctional; I'll have you know my psychiatrist says I'm MUCH better. So there.

*"Ferals" are a bit like hippies, except they bath a lot less and live in the rainforests ,where they mate with the native animals (mainly wombats and koalas, they can seldom catch a 'roo or platypus.) Some of their offspring have been declared entirely new species.

Queensland a bible belt? I wish it were a bible belt. I come from there. But hey I hope by the time I am finished on this earth that I will have at least reformed one or two.

People in other parts of Australia would beg to differ and I would agree with them. Well for one your state produced Ken Ham.
I saw a guy comment once who moved from Victoria to Queensland and remarked he had never seen so much US-style Christianity in his life.

Good Ole American Christianity. One of the only things we seem to be exporting at the moment, aside from our jobs and credibility.
(btw, if you take back Ken Ham we might be able to do something about the amount of obnoxious tourists we send your way)

I am a single mother of 3, I am 28, and I live in the southeastern United States. It's hard. I don't have anyone with whom I can share my thoughts, and have had people literally try to hold me down and perform an exorcism. I've had people call child protective services on me, and told them that I am worshiping Satan and performing rituals using my children. The list goes on and on, so that is why I am here. I am an atheist, and the only other atheist I knew died last year on August 30th after a 19 year battle with HIV. He was my best friend. I feel really alone on this pale blue dot. I really don't know why I haven't been here before today. Thank you all for having me.
It sounds more like you are living in somewhere like Saudi Arabia or Iran rather than the Southeastern United States. I have to give you credit for being openly atheist in a very religious society.
I am from southeastern Australia, which is a very secular society and if I were to become say like Richard Dawkins when it came to my religious beliefs (or lack therefore) few would really blink. Although I would be seen as a bit odd for being seen as fanatical perhaps, but we Aussies are notoriously laid back.

The American tourists can be obnoxious, however they don't stay for long and contribute money to the economy.
