Yeah, I was just being silly... I said calm down because it wasn't heated... Not as amusing when it isn't heard.

hmmmm? Yes we ARE calm frankiej. It's all good. I'm just one of those "old farts" that need to know the gory details.

Being an "Old fart" doesn't help either..when you miss some nuance or other.

This is how I feel:

I feel responsible myself because I've often jumped on the bandwagon of assault sometimes. I shall endeavour to be a pleasant chap at all times here on in!

Speak for yourself hon... it's exactly the people who seek truth who annoy me Tongue

And this is how I feel after reading all of that, and adrian's 'stepping down' post too:

We have warm fuzzy bunnies.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

People come on ... there's no need to get all offended. Most of us have been guilty at some point or another of being overly aggressive. I think all summer is saying is maybe we could all wrangle ourselves in a bit. Notice that I said our SELVES. No one here can make you do anything, we just want to get back to a forum that doesn't verbally destroy every one that walks in here.

We've kind of become an internet gang and MAYBE, we could all ease up a bit. No fingers pointed. No guilty charges. Lets just try to be a shade nicer not only to the newbies that arrive with respect, but also to each other.

I don't want this forum to be all hearts & moons either ...... but I also don't want it to be full of malice and a place of short-lived memberships because we're a bunch of thugs that pride ourselves on our pseudo open-mindedness.

I hear you Summer and I'm with you.

Maybe it's my age, maybe it's my background in the school of hard knocks, maybe young people today are such fragile creatures but I really can't see what all the fuss is about!
Is it not natural that in the course of often heated debate a little name-calling will occur? Is it not natural that an atheist will feel exasperated at most of what theists spout in their posts?
Is it not natural that debate about politics between atheists of the left and of the right will become heated and that insults will be tossed around?
I prefer honest exchanges such as we have to an authoritarian approach which will neuter genuine debate.
Calling people names never broke any jaws!
I think the balance here is ok as it is.

What's the fuss about? Really? Have you been reading the nature of the threads for the past few weeks. Yes, many are fine, but some are not.

Maybe Adrian's right - maybe it is time to bail if we can't even be rational about a topic like this. Yes bozo, sometimes the balance is just fine. No one here is saying we have to play with kid gloves, but this bare knuckle beat down we've been dishing out has gotten to be a bit much and we are losing people for it.

Honest exchanges are very important, but I think it's bull shit to use free speech and censorship rhetoric as a way to defend rude behavior. We can all be a little nicer and more respectful without the slightest bit of compromise in our debating.

That's it. I'm done.

You disagree with me....that's fine, I am only offering my opinion, yet you seem to be losing your cool already!
If we were to continue batting this around, how long would it take for you to verbally abuse me do you think?
