Religious Mockery on Facebook

RE: Religious Mockery on Facebook
Yeah I just keep replying to people's idiociy and then they reply with more stupid comments. It's very entertaining, cause anyone with a brain can see how stupid they are. But most of the religious people just ignore it and smile and go "Oh your silly lol : ) " Because they know they have no retort.

Facebook allegedly has about around 500 million users. I think there are almost certainly a goodly number of any kind of human being you can imagine,as well as those you can't imagine. But I suspect we superior ones are outnumbered by about 97%. (ahem)Tongue

PS are you saying you actually associate with lots of theists on purpose? Why? The only one I see in real life is me mum. (she's 85 and a bit set in her ways) My Facebook account has one ,Tacky because I like and respect him. I would also welcome Rayaan if he wanted to link.

There are Jew friends I grew up with, as well as several theist friends who I don't care to read about status-wise but who like to lurk on my page and get my sarcastic observations about life. I'm a barrel of laughs to people who read the bible, I guess. Book sets a low bar for comedy - who knew?

Then there are those who aren't on FB. One's even my counselor, of sorts. He leaves God out of it.

I associate with lots of theists because if God is left out of the equation I find myself quite capable of respecting or loving the person for being who they are. Don't preach to me. That's all I ask. The vast majority of them don't. Most of them don't even know I'm atheist, I think - Rachel must be spiritual or something! Maybe even a bit pagan! - they leave me alone to do what I do, and I don't bother them Sunday mornings (or Friday nights).

So sue me...apparently I'm a big push over and care too much.

Even though I don't like to mock religions, I did sort of laugh at some of those comments on that page (mainly because they're creative). Tongue

Pad, thanks, but as I've said it elsewhere, I don't have an account on Facebook or any other social networking website. I don't find them necessary or even entertaining for myself. That's why I don't go to those websites. Also, I spend enough time being on forums and other websites and thus I feel that going to Facebook is mostly going to be a waste of my time.

LMAO! That was hilarious. I have a lot of people on my friends list who just post the coordinates to bible verses. Just for fun, I started posting coordinates to the wretched ones and the same idiots who post all theirs with sincerity would "like" them! One even commented that she thought it was great that I had found Jesus! I asked her if she liked that verse, and I guess it was then that she looked it up, and deleted me from her friends list!

She got mad at me, but it's not like I wrote that repulsive shit..

Sorry raayan..but religions leave themselves wide open to mockery and jibe.

I have a Facebook page mainly to keep in touch with a family that are a bunch of globe trotters!! It helps to keep up with the familial gossip (keeps gatherings sociable and civil)

RE: Religious Mockery on Facebook
I don't want you to get the impression that I don't mock other things that happen on FB. Most of my friends' quirks, unfortunately, must not be made by the vast majority of people because I don't think there are categories to post them in.

I hate:

1) Those status memes where you state how much you love your mom/brother/sister/daughter/son/father/uncle/local fire crew/dog/pet alien/etc. They pass around because at the end of what's supposed to be a clever little statement about whoever you're talking about, they say "REPOST IF YOU LOVE YOUR MOM" or whoever it's about. The implication for idiots is that if you don't post it you must appear to other people as if you don't love that person. They're rather stupidly written, and I'm sick of seeing walls of text about something I already assume anyway. As in, unless I hear you cut off her head and buried it under the porch, I assume you love your mum.

2) The stupid breast cancer messages women pass along privately trying to encourage each other to post ambiguous status messages relating to bra color or shoe size or where you put your purse at home, what have you, that out of context sound like something sexual...as if that's supposed to do dick-all for cancer awareness.

3) The ones that all end in "this percentage of people won't repost this message." Again, implying that if you're not one of the select few who passes it along, you're an asshole. They always have to do with disabilities or illnesses. Sorry, but reposting something for my 190 friends, most of whom don't comment on my statuses or care, is not going to help search for a cure for diabetes. My money will.

And this is just a highly personal peeve - I have a friend who posts the same status every day of the week - as in when she wakes up she lets us know what day it is, says something cliche about it (like on Wednesdays she says "Happy Hump Day!"), then tells us to make it a GREAT day! Constant, consistent, eye-raping repetition of Barbie-like cheerfulness that makes me want to scream.

Be original. Be funny. Be real.

Of course, I don't mind posting how I really feel anymore... there's this forum I mod at that pretty much eliminated my fear of arguing with people about their gris-gris... Big Grin

Thanks Summer, those are hilarious.
