So then, genesis IS an accurate representation of material creation (as well as other books)? Any thoughts on post #25 in this thread.

I guess the question is: Who do you trust more?
Most people turn to someone close to them or in their family when they feel they cannot trust themselves for a good answer. I trust myself, and I believe that people have free-will, yet I do know of passages in the Bible where the Lord declares that people cannot come to him unless he let's them come, which supports predestination. I try not to get caught up in the freewill vs. predestination argument. I say just pick a side and be done with it.

I trust people who can substantiate their claims, not whoever smiles hardest or has given me the most toys. Pick a side and be done with it? Immortal soul's on the line, afraid that isn't good enough. If we can't trust that the bible has a single consistent message on something so crucial to the entire business of being christian...exactly what CAN we trust that lies within the pages of the bible? Post#25?

Yes. I believe that Genesis explains the creation of the world, along with other books throughout the Bible, like Psalms. David writes a lot of songs about God's power to create and give life and sustain things. In Job, God himself declares what's it's like to be God and asks if Job was present at the beginning of time. The Bible works together.
(All right. I'm going to play some outdated video games. I'll catch you all later.)

You have already been asked about this, but avoided it. So I'll ask again: What about the archaeological evidence that disproves it? If you want to fluff around and say 'Well it's faith, you can't touch my faith' you're an idiot but at least you're being honest. To claim your position is on the basis of science or history is easily falsifiable (correction: falsified) and to claim it is to be deliberately dishonest. The information is a Google away, so you either have no desire to read the information because you know that it would leave what you regard as the crux of your life in TATTERS, or it's going in one ear and out the other. It's lying, salty, and thou shalt not bear false witness. Which brings me nicely onto...

Which Christian standards are these? There are some Christians who want homosexuality to be illegal - is this a position you share? And that's the tip of the iceberg. What 'Christian standards' are depends on which Christian you ask. Rhythm has pointed out that in your beloved New Testament there's still plenty of evil, and is arguably more evil than the OT which you have managed to sweep under the carpet.
As for what I find offensive about Christianity, can it really be that hard to imagine why people would find it offensive? Just for starters, how about: The common view among its adherents that they are deserving of greater rights than me, that their position is untouchable and I shouldn't even be allowed to insult their religious views, which of course are completely unfounded. The fact that it seeks to interfere in every aspect of everyone's life, including education, politics, health and law among other things.
Believe me I have more, but you can take those as a starting point. Your move.

Think it's far better and rational to with-hold judgement till there is reason and evidence to support one thing over another.
Better than simply taking religious nuts word for it.

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

Whoa. What makes you think that souls are on the line when it comes to predestination vs. freewill? It is clear in the Bible that any who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.
It is only Christians who like to chatter back and forth about whether we were "chosen" or "if we came" but by that time we're all in the same boat, you get me?
If a non-believer denies Christ because of predestination, then they are blinded by the overall message that God has chosen people, but those people have not been revealed to us on earth, and that people choose to come to Christ of their own will. Yes, a duel message, yes it's confusing, but when you're sinking in water you don't fight about what color the boat is, you either get in or you drown, you know?

This pretty much sums you up. Pick what feels best to you and stick by your guns regardless of where the evidence points. What a fucking idiotic thing to say.

With us or against us, roger....touched on that in post #25. If it's free will, I have to make a choice, if its predestined I can just sit back and wait. Souls are on the line if you choose to accept the overall claim. In your example, if you find yourself in the water, the first thing you do is get the hell out of the water, and then you start looking for the guy who pushed you in. I don't have to be christian to wonder which of you has the line on god's word, nor do I have to be a christian to understand your faith. I'm about tired of that old axe btw "you just don't understand!". Battered women and christians, apparently... .
