You guys spout that christians only do things for money and never for love, your inability to see the truth always astounds me, you judge the many by the few yet you do not want that done to you. So practice what you preach. By the way christian schools do not put out illiterate children, so much for the secular schools, and I think that what you do for those who can not read is a wonderful thing, keep up the good work BethK. To compare what you do to what I do is like comparing apples to oranges both are good things in their own ways and each is as important as the other. No one stands higher than another when it comes to helping people, there is an exception to this, those who help others for attention do not have a leg to stand on, they do not truly have the need of others as their interest.

For fiscal year 2005, more than $2.2 billion in competitive social service grants were awarded to faith-based organizations. Between fiscal years 2003 and 2005, the total dollar amount of all grants awarded to FBOs increased by 21 percent (GAO 2006:43). The majority of these grants were distributed through state agencies to local organizations in the form of formula grants (GAO 2006:17).

In other words..MY tax money is going to support YOUR church.

Leave my tax money alone, and let your church compete with other religious ideas WITHOUT the aid of my dime.

It doesn't surprise me that you do not care to help others, like I said before disgraceful human.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Swing and a miss.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

That is what the last several posters said. The xtians cannot help the poor and/or needy without introducing the sky-daddy. And talk about a captive audience. Sheesh!
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.
-- Superintendent Chalmers

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

Once something's been approved by the government, it's no longer immoral.

Right..because that was the original context of my statement.

Me? I want universal healthcare. In America most christian churches oppose that. They want the money funneled through THEIR halls, so they can get want they want of it...big profits, power, and ...of course...forced evangelization and conversion.

I want people to be healed, for free, with their options in tact.

But you tell me... how would America look like if your church was in charge of all health care?

You don't really think anyone is buying that, do you? Why are you being so deliberately dishonest? That he does not care about others was neither said nor implied. You're just seeking to perform a character assassination, but guess what? The gun backfired. Disgraceful to try and deliberately misrepresent someone like that.

My mother is a Christian and she would shake her head at G-C right now and say that he was an obvious liar and manipulator.

G-C does not represent Christianity itself when he does things like this. G-C merely is representing himself in this matter.

Obviously he thinks its fine to stoop to this attempt.

Religion is one thing that is part of the human condition and part of human society, whether or not a given individual accepts or rejects it.

Humanity is, indeed, the menace. Religion is probably humans most successful invention in order to increase harm, damage, and menace to ourselves and other things (animals, plants, perhaps even the planet itsself)

During Hurricane Katrina, the first people on the scene giving aid was the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation - a secular organization.

I've read numerous things on drug and alcohol rehabilitation. I've found that the religious-based programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous, have a lower success rate than secular programs, or even lower than someone just deciding to stop drinking or using drugs.

Christianity is the #1 destroyer of families in rural areas of India with Christian missionaries who give food, medicine, schooling, community help (e.g., building a safe water supply). It's "free" but has a price: You must give up your traditional or Hindu ways, and moreover, avoid anyone who is not Christian because they might tempt you to renounce our newfound Christianity and go back to the religion (or lack of it) in your family. I've heard this from numerous people who came from different areas.

There are secular relief organizations, who give food, medicine, schooling, community development help. Some are connected with a government, like the Peace Corps, and others are nongovernmental, such as Doctors Without Borders.

If you don't want to hear (read) my rants against Christians, you might want to refrain from reading atheist boards. In the mean time, keep your superstitions out of schools, out of science, and out of my pocketbook. If you want your Church, YOU pay for it.

AA is not a christian program, please give me some references showing that secular programs are more successful than christian programs, I've seen the results from christian programs and there lasting success.

Amazing how the Christian party, I mean Republicans, hate healthcare yet blabber on about their religion, surely Jesus would want universal health care, didn't he heal the sick, or did he bypass those without insurance? GC you christians in the US are selfish turds, your all so unjesuslike. Ours in the UK are so much more advanced than you cretins.
