What is really sad, is that much of what is being claimed on atheist forums seems to be regurgitated stereotypes/texts taken out of context without any indepth knowledge.

Christianity did its fair share of persecuting.

Look at what it did to the cathars, catholics(by protestants), protestants(by catholics), jews, all the north and south american religions and of course they couldn't stand unbelievers.

The truth is that christianity only suffered persecuion for a short while, but rained down millenia of persecution since gaining power.

wow, yes these countries you are talking about are 3rd world countries in which, are very uneducated and looking for anything to cling to no matter how redicoulus the fairy tale. So it's the perfect breeding ground for brainwashing christians to stick their hands into and demand that for thier salvation the church will demand 10% percent of their earnings and all they get is more starving and a bedtime story..that is if they don't die first.
Bill Maher: If you believe that the world is going to come to an end - and perhaps any day now - does it not drain one's motivation to improve life on earth while we're here?

RE: New religion
You would therefor recognise the difference between what the Bible teaches as doctrine and what Christians do?

True dat. But a company is only as good as it's employees.

All of South America was forced into Catholicism, the church actually apologized a few years ago.

Only the through worshipping the Yoga Lord can you truly reach salvation in the afterlife, my friend.
I cannot prove that mine is right and yours wrong. If it was only about a dispute of facts, it is an exercise in futility. So you/I win...so what? If it however true that there is a hereafter , it will have a dramatic effect. The question is then possibly on what basis should I believe one source over another if they all claim to represent "the truth". For starters from a Christian perspective, I would consider the supernatural nature of prophecies that have been fulfilled. I would also consider the fact that Jesus rose from the dead and claimed to be God. Now either Jesus was an outright liar or a madman (which are both refuted by people outside the Christian faith, and witnesses are claimed), or one should give some serious consideration to what He said.
Apart from this, what is your opinion on the "emergent" church versus the more traditional, conservative churches of for instance the Puritans? Would you visit a church because of the music that it good and people have lots of fun, or would you visit a church where the music is not so hot, even boring for a person used to the beat of rock etc but there is love and respect - irrespective of whether you are a Christian or not, whether you are a homosexual or not, whether you are a known criminal or not?

What "witnesses" to Jesus are we talking about, since we are working toward some sense of accuracy?

You are regurgitating standard xtian bullshit based on a supposed "history" which they created for themselves in the 4th century and augmented later.

Actual Roman 'persecution' of xtians for the sole reason that they were 'xtian' dates from the mid- 3d century and was sporadic under various emperors. I have no doubt that you prefer the fairy tale version ( your kind always does) so I won't bother directing you to a site which demonstrates your error because you won't read it anyway.

Regardless, the Romans were quite tolerant of other religions - almost to a fault. Xtianity defined intolerance in the ancient world and forward.

I really, really hope he actually believes that I follow a deity called the Yoga-Lord...
