French and Native American mostly, though I do have a few other odds and ends, such as Scottish, in small amounts on my mother's side. It is barely distinguishable in myself. The French sticks out the most, but mother is a curly redheaded insane woman, so she is definitely sporting the Scot.

Right, so, I belong to a minority in Finland called the Finland-Swedes (finlandssvenskar in Swedish, suomenruotsalaisia in Finnish). We are most definitely Finns, but our ancestors are of a different descent than that of the Finnish speaking population. Finland-Swedes can/should be able to trace their lineage back to the vikings and the Finnish speaking population comes from a nomadic people in the east of Europe, sharing some traits with e.g. Hungarians and Estonians. During the course of time these genes mixed and nowadays there isn't much of a difference, only the language we speak as our mother tongues and some cultural aspects set us apart. But don't ever dare to call us Swedish, most of us (with the exception for Åland Islands, and who's asking them?!) take it as a deadly insult, we are Finns and darn proud of it!

Nah, it would seem that it's mostly confusing for people, who haven't heard of Finland-Swedes (even people here in Finland, imagine that! ). We are Finnish, but we talk Swedish as our mother tongue. And it is a different Swedish from the one they talk in Sweden. We understand each other just fine, but the accent and vocabulary is different, just like your English varies depending on where you live.

Try wrapping your tongue and head around Italian... dialects...all Italian but form different invasions...

I don't know... I was born in Scotland, I have lived here all my life and as far back as my great great grandparents they have all been Scottish, but I don't know any further than that... Although, in my eyes, any further than that isn't really part of you anyway... All this "heritage" and "blood" bullshit pisses me off... Even if I my parents were from somewhere else and I was born here and lived here all my life, I wouldn't consider myself anything other than Scottish.
I have a friend whose parents are from Malaysia and Singapore, but he was born in Scotland and has never ventured out of it... I consider him to be as Scottish me.
