BTW, where do the WBC get their dough?

BTW, where do the WBC get their dough?
They fly 2 to 3 times a week, all over the country, to newsworthy events, possibly stay over at motels, ride endless cab rides, to exercise their civic rights as disgustingly as possible. At least half a dozen of 'm every time. And they all have 10 to 15 children at home who are fed, clothed, and brainwashed. Day in and day out.
Between all that, attending Fred Phelps' rambling hate sermons, and painting their vitriolic protest signs they can't very well get any serious paying work done, can they?
So how can they afford it? Who pays the bills? The airfare? The cabs? The stay-overs? The gas? The food? The clothes? The housing? Where do they get an income from? Are those kids selling homemade cookies and cherry pies door-to-door in Topeka?

The podcast Irreligiosophy did an interview of one of Fred's sons who fled. It's worth listening to just so you get an idea of the hate and vitriol and bizarre nature of the man.

I haven't listened in a while, but if I recall correctly the entire church is tithed - and they might even receive donations. Also, I think Phelps used to do lucrative lawyer work before he was disbarred.

Apparently, most of the people in the church are lawyers, and not only that, but whenever they protest, they tend to file lawsuits against people who get pissed off at them, thus allowing for the operation to continue.

Their income comes from lawsuits. I read an article a while back discussing it. They essentially file claims everywhere they go, and because of the subject of their protests, they are almost guaranteed some reason to file suit. It is quite an inventive business operation, despicable certainly, but inventive nonetheless.
"In our youth, we lacked the maturity, the decency to create gods better than ourselves so that we might have something to aspire to. Instead we are left with a host of deities who were violent, narcissistic, vengeful bullies who reflected our own values. Our gods could have been anything we could imagine, and all we were capable of manifesting were gods who shared the worst of our natures."-Me

"Atheism leaves a man to sense, to philosophy, to natural piety, to laws, to reputation; all of which may be guides to an outward moral virtue, even if religion vanished; but religious superstition dismounts all these and erects an absolute monarchy in the minds of men." – Francis Bacon

College education is not necessarily indicative of common sense, and genius is not mutually exclusive of madness.

Let's not be too quick to dismiss the possibility that they all know better, that this is a racket. Not saying they do, just who knows.
