It couldn't work any other way for reasons which you've never thought of.
Another reason to completely ignore them. Giving someone opposition allows for polarizations and despite their whacked out view I'm not sure atheism is our of the minority league enough yet. More cleaning out of the judicial system I would think would be required first.
