Personally, if I were a counter demonstrator, I'd put on a clown suit and call myself "Phelpsie the Clown". I'd demonstrate along side them saying "boogie, boogie, boys and girls. Beware the invisible sky daddy. Come, be a clown like us. We clowns have to stick together."
This is a great idea! I'd love to see the WBC protest somewhere and have a group of a dozen or so clowns join them. The clowns could carry signs just like the WBC and yell out "God hates fags!". The implication, of course, is that they're all a bunch of clowns. And what could the WBC idiots do about it? They could ask the clowns to leave, but the clowns could just refuse. The clowns could even say, "We came to support you!" This would be quite amusing and who could get mad at a bunch of clowns yelling "God hates fags!"? The humor would drown out the hate.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.
God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

I'd like to build on that idea. Take the "God hates figs" slogan that someone on the internet came up with. I forget who but it would be a great counter argument.
Make signs that say "God hates figs (Mark 11:14)" in the style of the Westboro signs. Then we could have clowns arguing with each other about who's right.
"No, no, God hates FIGS. Jesus said we're to never eat from their trees again but our society is a fig-eating-tolerant society. That's why our troops are dying overseas. We tolerate the eating of figs and so... look, do I have to map it out for you? Figs! FIGS!"
"God hates FIGS!"
"Come hither or wither!"
