And what is the name of this mental illness?

Damn, fundamentalist religion is just poison for people with anxiety disorders. Are you receiving medical treatment for it? If it's as crippling for you as you report, it would be definitely warranted to restore quality of life. But treatment should be done by specialists for OCD/anxiety disorders, no untargeted general medication.

I do talk to this lady once a week on Skype, it's not a medical thing but she also has OCD and it helps a lot.

I'm sure he is a nice person. But being nice doesn't mean he's correct. Consider this for a second:

Quote: he has helped me and helped find people to help me through my severe OCD,

Good for you. My brother had crippling OCD (and I don't mean this pop-culture "I'm-afraid-of-dirt kind of OCD; I mean that it was interfering with his life so much we brought him to a doctor and he was given a clinical diagnosis) throughout highschool and his secular mother found secular doctors and medications and therapy to help him get through it.

Quote: and uses his chruch to reach out to prisons and donate money to needy causes.

Again, look at the pic above. There are secular charities out there who do a lot of good and don't do it because an invisible friend is looking over their shoulder. I might also mention that there are a lot of really shady Christian charities out there, who take money and instead of using it to help people, they just preach to them.

Quote: He's been there for me my whole life. Should I trust him, or a bunch of random joes on the internet who says me and my family are idiots?

Don't trust me; trust facts. Trust evidence. Trust science. Even your Bible admits that humans make mistakes, so how are you to know that your father isn't in error when he tells you to be a Christian?

The doctors, even a muslim one said that something supernatural must have occured, that my parents were clearly on to something. How could I doubt after something like this?

Final attempt? I hope this doesn't mean you're leaving. You SAID you wouldn't leave unless one of us really converted.

Doctors don't like to tell obviously religious parents that their child recovered due to entirely natural causes or due to their brilliant treatment. It's bad for business.

Funny how we get more healing miracles the more advanced our science gets. And never get any healing miracles that are impossible without, well, an actual miracle. Currently, we can not grow someone's legs back for them. And neither can God, apparently. It would be astonishing if it happened. But it never does.

Now that's a cop-out! Having a mental condition will/can indeed make matters harder, but you have to be severely handicapped in order not to do any research (or what are you doing here otherwise?). It's not a matter of getting to all the big solutions and answers at once, but to take baby steps. I know that mental conditions can be a hindrance, but is your limit really zero? I don't think so. No one is asking you to give up your faith, but most would like to see you think for yourself and come to own conclusions. Whether they are wrong or right doesn't matter at this point, the goal being to get accustomed to using your neurons. Your dad won't be around forever, you have to eventually stand on your own, get comfortable with not having him as a reference all the time. Thinking is a scary thing, but believe me, it's well worth it.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

These religious concepts are designed to do just that. Overwhelm you with fear so you can't look past it. Once you realize that and look at things objectively, you'll see that it's all actually laughable.

But by all means, trust your parents. Live your life in fear because someone told you to. Just don't come on here and ask that I do the same.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

As a Christian, did you really think that posting your sob story to convert us was going to get you positive attention on an atheism themed forum?

Why you are here? If we are just random Joes, why are you even taking the time to talk to us?

No worries, I think everyone guessed that from the context Big Grin
(Also, concerning the OCD: what you mistype in this forum doesn't change your fate in magical ways, so relax Smile )
My commentary still holds, it is a form of abuse. If he were telling you you were going to hell it would be more severe, sure, but the way it is now is still pretty bad, especially worsened by your condition, which already causes irrational fears.
