Peanut Gallery Commentary on the Staff Log of Bannings and such like.
RE: Peanut Gallery Commentary on the Staff Log of Bannings and such like.
I think people tend to forget that staff are members first and staff second. It's a volunteer position filled by humans.

And I have been guilty of forgetting that myself on more than one occasion.

The issue Is clearly emotive and your (generic) integrity is at stake.

That forum moderators involve themselves in personal issues suggests they may be emotionally involved. This does not a good moderator make.

If there are multiple members, which there should be in a reasonably active forum, then new or contentious issues should be discussed and – if a clear agreement can’t be reached – voted on.

Yeah. No.

An admin was found to be speaking threateningly to a member on another site. We quietly demoted him and didn’t mention why to anyone. He was the one who ultimately forced us to respond by making up lies about what happened and trying to convince people he was the victim of something.

He was removed back in March btw.

Lol, who cares if it’s emotive? This isn’t an official staff issue. My integrity’s as cozy as ever.

Somehow I missed the part about it being at a place other than here, though that doesn't excuse it. Shee-it. Sad

I'm not privy to all the communications between Stimbo and C_L, but I will say that that defense looks like what the laity would say about an offending priest. C_L can tell me if I'm reading that wrong.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Then ban is sorry arse and be done with it.

When I messaged him to tell him that telling Jack she stabbed him in the back was crossing another line, he ignored me. If he had something to say, he can say it his fucking self. Maybe defend her from him instead of him from us?

Also, you said you’d said all you had to say. The continued effort to rally people to his side doesn’t sound at all like someone who isn’t trying to excuse his behavior.

I know. Trust me I didn't intend on going on with it, but seeing his entire person being reduced down to something he said (which he didn't mean) in a drunken, depressive state hurt my heart. Despite how awful that thing was, I don't think it should define him entirely. We've known him for years as a respected member here and decent human and friend.

Let me make it clear that I'm not treating this as "sides", as in, Jack's side and Stimbo's side. Me thinking he's not a bad person doesn't mean I think Jack is a bad person. I like and respect them both. I don't blame Jack at all for reporting it, as it is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to other people's safety.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

(For reference: In his drunken state he has talked to me as though Sam is still alive, and has also asked me to pray for him.)

It doesn't excuse the awful thing he said to Jack, but it does put it into context.

TROLL.

LOL.

She did. There's pictures of the 2 of them together all over his facebook.

So why make it one?
It's a moderator issue and moderators are expected/presumed to be above this.

He didn’t break a site rule.

He did make comments on another site that we deemed to be unbecoming of an admin. You can follow all the forum rules and still not be a good choice for the staff team. He clearly wasn’t a good choice, and he certainly didn’t deserve to remain in a position of power.
