You don't believe that a single atheist movement exists or ever did exist? Really?

Nope.  If you think one did, produce evidence.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

I believe that he is a great scientist and is really smart, however his attitudes towards atheism are very cowardly. In the video below he makes many cringe worthy statements. For example at around the 25 second mark he calls atheism a philosophy and claims that with it comes baggage. He also is extremely ignorant when it comes to the terms atheism and agnosticism.

I think it is time that we completely disassociate him from the atheism movement, because that is what he wants us to do.

I always liked him as a scientist. He's right as far as the first part goes. Once you identify as part of a group people on the opposite side puts you into stereotypes, regardless of what group you're in, and that doesn't help when you're trying to have a conversation. As for the rest, I don't care what he wants to call himself, but I never paid much attention to him beyond his expertise.

I'm tired of these "we are the atheist movement, you're with us or against us!" types running around on the Internetz. Tongue

I am not part of any movements as of now... I am sorry if I used words I shouldn't have in the OP. It really sucks that everyone harps on every single word as though I took days to write it.

I'll say this: whichever name it has in the end, I decree that NdGT is in my movement Smile

Couldn't his article say something like "Nelly DeGrapes identifies as an agnostic, although some would argue that he is (also) an atheist."

That's not a movement, that's something that wasn't started by atheists, it's something that was "identified" by theists, just because atheists were not being forced to remain silent about their lack of beliefs.  There are no stated goals to this supposed movement.  It's just atheists who refuse to be shut up by the religious.

Try again.

Did you even open the link?! It states the goals of the movement in the first paragraph!
