Sounds like a plan. Afterwords, a local fireman can tend to your medical needs for any injuries from the blaze.
Seriously, wtf?

Quote:DeistPaladin: Cutting taxes doesn't fuel the economy. Economists will tell you this.
Is that what economists say? What's your opinion on this...
Quote:... a panel of leading economists surveyed by CNNMoney.com said that the tax cuts should be renewed for everyone.
The first in a series of economic surveys revealed that extending the tax cuts for all taxpayers is the most important thing Congress can do to help the economy.
Quote:"Extend tax cuts for all income levels and do nothing else," said Sean Snaith, economics professor at the University of Central Florida. "More of the same piecemeal, patchwork policies put forth by this administration will undermine confidence and do little to change the path the economy is on."

My bad. I'm sure rich and corporate interests have shills on cable "news" who will tell you that tax cuts for the billionaires will stimulate the economy.
Let me put it another way: how did the Bush tax cuts work out for America over the last decade? How well did the massive windfall for the rich "trickle down" to the rest of us?
Compared to the Clinton years, the mid to late 90s?
I'll speak personally. I'll take the 90s economy.

Oh, okay. So they're shills if they don't agree with you.

They're shills if they keep repeating mantras that have been proven wrong over the last 30 years.
Now, you want to answer my question?

No. You were proven wrong. You said economists will tell us that taxcuts won't fuel the economy. Actually, what the economists are saying, is that extending the Bush taxcuts to everybody is the most important thing that congress can do to help the economy, ( see link in post #65). Your response was to call them corprate shills.
The Bush taxcuts are helping to prop up the weak economy. The more we're taxed, the less money we have to put back into the economy. The more the Obama administration wages war against the upper income bracket and businesses, the more business closures and job losses we're going to see. Even though 150,000 jobs were recently added, three times that amount also filed for unemployment claims. Raising taxes in a recession is a bad plan, Quote:Economists will tell you this.
These links should make for some interesting reading to give a better insight to the causes of a recession...

The jobs have been added to the private sector and lost in the public sector. This is partly the result of the end of the census and partly the effect of constraints on state-level spending. Democrats wanted to help the states but the Republicans blocked it, aggravating the effect of the state level cutbacks.
Government spending cuts during economic downturn = greater recession
Herbert Hoover cut spending during the economic downturn, which led to the Great Depression.
I'm a former Reagan-worshiping conservative Republican. I used to believe the mantra that cutting taxes for the richest members of society leads to economic growth for everyone. We've tried it for 30 years and the only thing it's done is destroy the middle-class and make the rich even richer. The fact that the greatest prosperity during that time was under a tax-and-spend liberal president and the slowest economic time was under the Bush tax-cuts should be enough to convince you as well.
