Only the barrels are metal. It's a paper kit with laser cut parts. One of our old Dreadnoughts from WWI. The St. Istvan. It's not from scratch, but you have to fold and bend the parts in shape, of course.

It's remarkable.  How long did it take?

Depends on how much time you have at your hands. It's still not totally finished, since it also needs passion, especially for the small parts. Took me two years so far.

Ah, and here's a lifelong passion of mine. Vintage cars. My father was an engineer by profession. I grew up breathing petrol and never lost the fascination. I could name cars before I could read or write and distinguish them by their sounds. That of course was in the 60ies, when cars still were distinct individuals. That beauty I discovered on one of the squares of my hometown. Opel Rekord Caravan, 1960 built.

You seem to have many hobbies, and that's great. We all need something to enjoy. Glad to be your associate Smile

Couldn't get a good look at the titles on your shelf...any suggestions? I'll add them to the 'acquisition list' Tongue

I can understand what you mean by " when cars still were distinct individuals "
...you're right, that's not the case, so much anymore, really.

My nephew will very likely head that way; he's 2.5 years old but can already identify and name all the major automotive company logos and has his favourite models, as toys.  He's fascinated by anything with wheels,
but growing up nowadays, I don't know what path it will take; like you said, it's different now.

I'm not really an automotive authority, myself, but I feel I should look for ways to nurture his interest.

I was thinking of getting him a book about the history of speed tests done on the Bonneville Salt Flats, or something, idk.  Something specialized, that will stand out to him, as he grows up in a world of planned automotive obsolescence.

I'm stunned to hear you've spent two years on that ship.  I figured it took you a few months, anyway, but that is dedication.  Ever build a ship in a jar?  Or maybe that's not your cup of tea?

They're mostly non fiction. Historical volumes in their majority, including really boring stuff like Grotefend's "Handbuch der Zeit", which is really just something for history nerds to determine exact historical dates and read historical documents accurately. The ones you see in picture #1 is the complete transcription of the Nuremberg tribunals.

So, you see, without knowing your interests, it's hard to make recommendations. But, as far as fiction goes, I'm rather fond of Mike Carey and his Felix Castor series.

Forgive the list format...but here is our non-fiction section:

Damn that copied in a terrible format.  We have a lot of history, military history, literature/poetry, and sociology and political sociology.

For fiction I have everything Michael Crichton ever wrote, James Rollins, Tom Clancy, Lee Child, Ted Bell, Preston & Child...etc.  Our fiction section is about 1.5 times bigger than the non-fiction.

What ship class is that? It has gun sponsons along the side like a Great War design, but triple turrets aren't on any WW1 class with which I'm familiar.

Amazing work, by the way. I knew a guy in prison who built plane models by the same method, which were incredible. Detailed cockpits and everything.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
