Anti-theist here
Hi there fellow apostates,
I'm an Australian Atheist who was born and raised in a very liberal Catholic home.
Both my parents are now committed Atheists these days after I began reading Christopher Hitchens' books and having discussions with them about the points raised by Hitch.
I love philosophy, science, music, sport, drugs, meditation, animals and of course debate.
I'm an amateur boxer and a medical student hoping to do a PhD in neuroscience post medicine.

I look forward to conversing with you all Smile

Hey there! That's great to hear that your family is in the same boat as you. That makes life a little easier.

Hitchens is the man! I'm sure you'll fit in nicely.

Welcome
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

Welcome aboard.  Aussies are cool.  They help keep the board going while the rest of us are sleeping.

Another bloody Aussie, ex-catholic medico?

What are the odds?

Welcome to the boards.

I once had my Catholic aunts give me a copy of the bible. I gave them a copy of Hitchens' God is not Great.

Tit for tat and all that.

I'm in the Bible Belt of the USA. To us, a "Yankee" is like a quickie... but by yourself.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

MTL. what makes us Aussies cool is the fact that we use the metric system and we drive on the right side of the road and we play real fucking football without the sissy pads! ...
Go Pies!

(Even worse, my US mustang speedo is in miles, but a gps fixed that, then there's the deal breaker! LH Drive. I eventually converted it to RH Drive because I was sick of going through the McDonalds drive through in reverse so I can pay the lady!)
No God, No fear.
