Hate you.

smaller is quicker, Right?

Goddamn, dude, did you build your internet yourself out of tin foil and bubble gum?

I can type faster than that Tongue

We are out in the sticks and this was actually an upgrade from my Sprint card (3G) to a wireless link.  We could purchase a little faster, but this works for streaming HD video and 99% of the downloads do not even touch that due to the available bandwidth of the majority of websites.  Unless one is doing multiple downloads or full-fledged networking, the kind of speed you have available is unnecessary.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

RE: Internet speed, 2015
Out of curiosity--- and I really don't think I'm secretly channeling sour grapes, but
What does one do with 1/2 gigabit/sec bandwidth?
Once upon a time, bragging rights came from having the best audio fidelity and you had to pay for it.
Then audio reproduction got better than my ears reception and nobody cares any more.

Quote:Netflix said recently their HD is 4800 Kbps, which is 600 kilobytes per second, or 2.06 gigabytes (GB) per hour.

My back of the envelope calc says that you can download an hour of HD video in ~30 sec at 1/2 Gb/sec.
What does one do with the rest?  Download another hundred hours of HD?  Share with 99 other people, everybody watching a different movie?

I get ~17 Mb/s download 1.06 Mb/s upload and don't appear to have any problems, though we don't generally watch video online.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat? Huh

I'm getting 125Mb down and 12Mb up.

That's with a hard wired connection.

RE: Internet speed, 2015
I have to use a very special modem that is rubber banded to a soup can which has a piece of string on it that runs along a fence row 4 miles into town where the local provider converts the signal to semaphore which is relayed (on clear days) to a grain elevator across the river where I believe it actually gets connected to a Kaypro computer, and it's connected to the Bruce-net (a local startup company using Soviet era surplus vacuum tube technology), which eventually is interfaced to the actual internet in Billingsford South Dakota.

Doubt it.  Comcast looks like this around here:

Incidentally, this result is more indicative of the speed of my 2.4GHz wireless network than my internet connection.  Wired is faster, so's the 5GHz wireless band.

This is comcast here:

You obviously are on a higher tier package than I. Tongue I'm pretty sure I can get that speed, but I don't want to pay the freight.

Try power cycling the tin can and string on your end and see if that helps.
