Therefore, the burden of proof is on you.

I'm looking forward to hearing your evidence.

You've got 46 pages of this thread to refer to...and even though trolls like yourself have a habit of trying to reset the conversation every so often, to inject life into their dead horse, that doesn't change the fact that you have 46 pages to refer to.

You're either lazy or you have nothing. Figures.

Or...I have 47 pages of this thread to refer to, same as yourself.  Still dodging your simple minded insistence of exodus? You seemed to think it was a great question a few pages back....perhaps you should have an answer yourself, eh?

I'd say "didn't happen" could be considered shorthand for "there is absolutely no reason to think it did happen, and many good reasons to think it didn't". That's a mouthful, and science doesn't deal in absolutes.

That's how I use the phrase anyway, in the same way I say there is no elephant in my living room. (I'm in my living room.)

LOL, I'm willing to state it as an absolute.

A nation of jews did not build Egypt..and then escape unbeknownst by Egypt, under cover of curses from god....across a magic water bridge...to wander the desert for a generation or so....while being fed sky fruit, until they settled upon an area and built a kingdom that never existed.

Fair enough Smile

It's a choice between a fairy tale in one book, and all the knowledge ever acquired in the last 2000 years and beyond. Why anyone would even consider the former is beyond me. (Well, I know some psychological reasons why.)

I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth.

Generally? Yes.

But you seem to have forgotten that the whole point of the story is that the Hebrew god chose to warn Noah in advance. Cool

What would have happened if Noah couldn't meet the deadline? Would this god have extended it a couple of weeks or whatever? At least Morgan Freeman waited for Steve Carell to finish building the boat before doing his thing, even if the only reason all the animals and onlookers were in any danger at all was precisely because the boat was being built.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Book Chapter and verse please

Noah flood is OT so give or take if you wish that happened before jesus "existed".
As always dry sand point missed!!!

The subject is the Exodus not the Flood found in the first part of Genesis.

To mention or want proof of the flood when discussing the Exodus is a logical fallacy/Moving the goal posts. The discussion is of X and the avaible proof of 'X' The Flood has nothing to do with 'X' it is another subject "C". To demand proof of "C" when discussing "X" shows a weak argument.

We ran out of things to discuss regarding the exodus, what with it never happening and all.

(January 12, 2016 at 11:53 am)Stimbo Wrote: Then explain, without once resorting to fairytale devices, precisely how the largest wooden boat ever constructed without metal bracing managed to stock between two and seven of every animal on the planet, keep them fed and alive, maintained by a crew of eight for a whole year. Explain how the mountaintops got covered by water, where it came from and where it went afterwards. Explain how the only evidence for any of this is one story in a collection of mythological texts, and why anyone would even consider it as an historical event without reference to the story.

Let me attempt to explain it this way: I personally don't buy into the idea the some all-powerful being created everything that we can see, etc. in six 24-hour periods, and then took a day off to rest. I mean, seriously?

But OTOH, the more common understanding of Genesis is that the author is trying to convey a message about the creation of all things as best he can. It seems to me that he can be dead on about the who (God) and the what (creation) without needing to understand the how (evolution v. creationism). Doesn't this seem reasonable?

Similarly, IF (and I'm saying this because I'm trying to PRESENT the argument rather than ASSUME it) the author was trying to convey the basics of a story about God's judgment of the wicked, etc., would it be possible for him again to have the Who and What correct without necessarily getting the details spot on?

Now, I get that SOME fundamentalist types accept the literal interpretation of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, but not all Christians - heck, not even the majority of Christians - do. So, why are you so intent upon holding such a simple-minded interpretation of the flood when Christians themselves do not?

It's a strawman argument, Stimbo, and not a terribly good one at that.

Very good points.. I wanted to save my noah stuff for another thread but I also want to add to what you said, in that the story of Noah is not a logistical set of directions on how one man can save the world from an angry God. The opposite is true. The flood is a story of how God saved the world through one man's faith, and perseverance. So for someone like stimbo to ask or question the logistics mentioned in the account is the same as to not understand the fundamental principle of this story.
