If it were proven to be exactly the same as old meat it would be old meat. Law of identity, and that doesn't take any genius. I;m not even sure if you know what you're asking.
You mean, what if "new meat" could also produce fertility and all of those other animal products in a sustainable manner by people other than lab technicians? Call me then, save the ad copy for -that- day. Till then it's meat and nothing else.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

So what does it taste like by itself?
Meat-ish. It's not exactly like meat, but then the flavour of meat isn't what really makes it special. It's the texture that's more important when part of a dish. It wouldn't compare against a good steak eaten by itself, but we've just had Qorn chicken chunks in a tomato pasta and it actually had a stronger flavour albeit a slightly softer texture. For beef mince the dish is just as tasty whether you have Qorn or the real thing.

What does the meat have to do with fertility?
Nothing.
It would be exactly the same as old meat but for the fact that it wouldn't come from a live animal, but from a live cell of a live animal. How is this so difficult for you to wrap your head around?

If I hadn't already explained it perfectly well I'd explain it again. The facts of livestock production distress you, I understand...they are still the facts of livestock production. The animals are necessary, as are their deaths. We could throw the carcasses in pits, I guess, or feed them to our dogs...-if we didn't want to eat them- but we would have to do something with the bodies.

It doesn't distress me in the least and you still didn't address my main point, you're just talking about unrelated things.
If vitro meat would be the same as meat, except for the fact that it came from a cell instead of from a whole animal, would you switch to eating it for the obvious health benefits?
Other than that, if we really need to kill animals for other reasons, FINE. I'm not arguing against that.
I do doubt it but I'm not arguing against it as I don't have the facts or the knowledge to do so.

Okay.

LOL, I'll end up eating it if it tastes good, regardless of my reservations. I'm not a saint. It could be as unhealthy as any other processed meat product too. I'm not sure that chicken nuggets come from whole animals in the first place.......still tasty.

-and then throw their carcasses away rather than eat them, even though were going to spend the same or more resources in raising them regardless of whether or not we eat them.....why? Can you see why I would see this as wasteful, or why in vitro meat, pulling resources from oil..is short sighted

I can see it. Now all you have to do is to convince me that we need to kill animals in order to grow vegetables or what have you and you'll have won me over.

We don't, we can pump more oil, faster. We do have that choice. Your call. Our oil addiction just -might- be a problem though......just -might- account for some death and suffering and slaughter. Here's the kicker I don't see any need to "win you over". You should be able to make your own dietary choices pursuant to your own health and your own conscience. I think that's a good thing. It's a privilege you and I have that's very unfairly distributed. Ultimately, if you insist upon animal free products you are saddled with oil, and I understand that's not exactly your own doing or a choice you would make if you could make another. You should understand my position better than you've been letting on. I insist upon sustainable food, and that means that I'm saddled with livestock, for better -or- worse.
