I'm calling bullshit on that.  I make substantially more than the national average, and I guarantee my child has and will cost nothing close to that figure through college.

That's a number you get when you add up everything up on average. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/18...88179.html). I may be a little bit off, but I adjusted for inflation and the cost of the child coming back from collage with a degree and having trouble using it in the job market. The average parents income can't afford to send there child to school on there own money. If you want to child to attend a good to great university, your looking at about is this (http://www.collegedata.com/cs/content/co...leId=10064). Your not in the average bracket, if you factor in banking rolling your own child's education your looking at roughly about 1.5 million dollars from birth to collage. If your of the average income it's going to more cause of the rates of the loan. A former co-worker of mine has a degree in Animation which she can't use since the field is hard to brake into and she's sitting well in over $100,000 in debt. I was trying to make the point of that a child should not be even close to a million dollars to raise and put through school. A other co-worker of mine, saw the bill that his girlfriends insurance was billed for the birth of his daughter. It was over ten thousand dollars! That's absurd by any standards.

Did you even read the article you linked to? It claims a figure that is an order of magnitude less than what you claim.

Yes I did read them, I was adding in some numbers on my own research. Cost of clothing overtime, diapers, daycare, baby sitters ect. If you have the luxury of being able to live off one income while the mother or father raises the child at home as a full time stay at home parent it does cut costs down. The cost of day care (http://www.babycenter.com/0_how-much-you...1199776.bc). There's no direct answer for how much it costs to raise a child. The best numbers I've heard is the 2.5 million dollars per kid on the average income of 50 thousand and under a year which is your average American's income.

Not directly, I added some of the cost that is not normally factored in. Such has loans that alot of parents have to take out to support there families and adding in costs a lot of people don't think of. Also I was over adjusting for the rising costs of a proper education with private schools since public schools are the worse they have ever been. That amount I gave was a common average I have heard and I happen to agree with. Disgree all you like with the me, the way I view a proper upbring is higher then most people think is proper.

My sister and I were raised in a household that earned under $20k most years and we did fine. We never went hungry, always clothed, always had a roof over our heads. Dad always worked, never took any government handouts. Granted, my mother clipped coupons, we went to public school, and we didn't go to the doctor unless someone was really sick, but I don't ever remember feeling like we were poor or that I was doing without. The $2.5 million per child figure is simply mind-boggling to me.

We haven't quite made half of $2.5 million in the last eighteen years, and yet we've raised two kids, and saved for their college, and supported ourselves, and paid taxes, and gone of some lovely vacations, and owe nothing but the mortgage.  And we've felt well off too.  So yeah, there's something wrong with those numbers.

If you have smart parents you can raise a child on the average of the articles I posted. I coincide my argument. It's good that you had smart parents you got lucky, I just wish I could of had the upbringing with private schools. I think I could of done a lot better in life with a private school upbringing instead of the reality of public school.

It seems to me that if you're rating the expense of child-rearing on your own standards which you've implied are higher than average, you're rather negating your own point.

My standards are higher then normal, I'm more angry at world for not giving me a chance at happiness. I had to fight for every bit of knowledge I have cause of the censored education I received. The fight goes on for me to undo the damage public school. It would probably not of avoided the constant bullying, it might of been a little less if it was in a private settings. Who knows, I could of been a lot more intelligent with the back ground of a better education at an earlier age. That possibility angers me cause I was only given a lower American education and had to discover the rest on my own. It was not until I was about 24 I found about unit 731, why was this dark history not taught to me in high school? Why was so much history denied to me when I was in school? The fact Americans was practicing concepts on it's own citizens that Germans picked up on, and it was swept under the rug. If I had been in private school these lessons would of taught and not hidden away.
