There are no rules to follow.... except you must repent and be baptized.

I don't know where you're from but I never needed driving lessons, you got a learners permit at 14 and kind of learned through experience.

UK. And that's a red herring.

And is my analogy bad just because you say so, or are you going to tell the class why, like I did with yours?

Huggy, I learned to drive in Maryland when I was a teen. It was a requirement for students to have certain credits AND driving hours under their belts before they could get their provisional licenses. We had to take a class in order to get the credits. The driving hours could be a combination of simulated drive time as well as real drive time, but a driver's ed instructor had to sign off on the papers you gave to the DMV.  In PA, it's pretty much the same. You have to pay for courses to learn how to drive. I learned 28 years ago. Today, the requirements for driver's ed courses are still about the same.

No one just gets their learners permits and goes about driving to gain experience in the way you describe. Lessons are needed for the credit requirements. That's just how it was. And usually it's done through the high schools down in Maryland. Last I heard, you also needed to graduate from high school or at least have a GED in order to even apply for a learners permit down there.

Then the requirements must differ state to state. I got my license in Alaska. You got your learners permit at 14 and drivers license at 16 so no graduation requirement there.

All you need to do was take a written test and road test for 15 bucks, that was it.

Alaska... that explains it. What are you going to hit up there besides snow and moose? Not as populated up there as in the lower 48...or to be more specific - the East coast. Here, it's age 15 and 9 months you can apply for your learner's permit by taking the written exam. When you've got your required credit hours in plus your required driving hours in and your certificate for passing the driver's ed course has been signed by the instructor, you can then take the driving test. If you fail that, you have to wait 30 days to try again.

I failed my written exam twice. Got it the third time. Passed the actual driving test on the first try.

You can't be indoctrinated into xtianity?  Say what?
Singing children's hymns at the age of three isn't indoctrination?  Being surrounded by "Jesus this" and "Jesus that" since the day of your birth isn't indoctrination?  Being told that if you don't love Jesus and obey your parents, you'll burn in hell forever isn't indoctrination?  Being told since kindergarten that reading the Bible and praying and being good in church is more important than anything else in the world isn't indoctrination?  Being told that getting to heaven by being a good xtian is the ONLY thing that is important in life isn't indoctrination?  Being told that you can't play with the kids who aren't xtians because they're evil and they hate Jesus and they're going to burn in hell isn't indoctrination?
If that isn't indoctrination, what is?

Christianity is about freedom, indoctrination is about conformity. If you're speaking of certain denominations then you would be correct, except a religious denomonatin based loosely on the teachings of Christ does not equal Christianity.

A Lutheran Church teaches Lutheran doctrine, and a Catholic church teaches Catholic doctrine. If they both taught the doctrine of Christ then they would obviously have the same doctrine.

A Lutheran Church teaches Lutheran doctrine, and a Catholic church teaches Catholic doctrine. If they both taught the doctrine of Christ then they would obviously have the same doctrine.

But both doctrines follow the same Abrahamic god, so just because they vary in their actual teachings and rituals, they still follow christianity. Indoctrination is indoctrination no matter how one tries to phrase it.

Speaking of the Catholic doctrine, I've heard that Episcopalians are like Catholics, but with half the calories. In other words, they aren't heavy into the rituals of the Catholic church but they still follow the same teachings, to a point.

You'd be surprised actually. I currently live in Boise (capital), Idaho (Nampa technically, but close enough) where the population is actually smaller than Anchorage, Alaska.

Well, duh, how else are you going to indoctrinate the next generation?

I see zero difference between this and tobacco companies advertising to kids, because they know 90% of their customers need to be hooked early, and very few people start smoking as adults.  Same with religion.  If you make it to 20 without picking it up, you are probably safe from ever getting hooked.

RE: Teach children about Jesus at a young age,
Why are parents so eager to "teach" their kids young?

Can they really not help themselves?

Or are they worried about trying to convince an unprogrammed 7 year old about talking snakes and zombie Jews?
