Well, she deserved it.

See, this is why I hate to be called ma'am. It's because where I am from people only do it to mock you. Now living in South Georgia everyone calls me ma'am and no amount of begging will convince them to stop.

-please don't call me ma'am

-yes ma'am
-doh sorry ma'am

I'd think in Georgia they'd call you Miss Losty, that's if they new your name.

Thank you very much, stupid mother fucker known as Sam Walton.

Realistically speaking, the customer is not always right and they are not always deserving of a "yes".

The customer service business has ruined society by creating a monster that will take a great deal of fortitude to destroy.

Everyone deserves to hear "no".

That is what people need to hear regularly.

A continuance of "yes" merely creates chaos.  An occasional "no" creates humility and order.

Say no to yes.

Thank you for this! I work in customer service and see the result of too many yeses frequently. It makes people feel entitled and like they should always get their way and it's so frustrating. The customers try to get us to bend the rules and get upset when we don't.

So I'll take ma'am if I have to. Honestly though, if you don't even know my name I generally don't want you to address me as anything lol. I'm a terrible anti social grinch in real life.

On moving to SoCal, I had to retrain myself to not call women "ma'am" -- it seems that many out there get butthurt assuming it's an age reference. Where I'm from it's a simple courtesy doled out to all women regardless of age.

But butthurt customers don't spend money, so there you go.

I don't like it because where I am from its only used in mocking sarcasm. Calling a woman ma'am is usually only done disrespectfully. It makes me cringe so I try to get people I talk to on a regular basis not to call me that but mostly it still happens and I get over it.

They call me Miss Losty, or rather Miss Stephanie. But they still always say "yes ma'am" when asked a question or asked to do something.

What's so strange to me, I'm allowed to let students call me "Miss Stephanie" rather than "Ms. Smith" (not my actual last name haha), but I'm not allowed to let them not say "yes ma'am". Growing up, if we called anyone at our school Miss Firstname that would be the highest level of rudeness. My parents would have probably killed me.

Don't beat you're head against a wall. Might as well try to get them to stop asking "What kind of Coke would you like? We have 7up, sprite, Dr. Pepper, .........".

Ahaha that is my favorite thing! Especially when the options are sweet tea and lemonade. Hehe

I had been completely unaware of your feelings on this matter. You know I think the world of you and don't mean it in that sense, but I apologize for rubbing you the wrong way using it. I wish you'd simply said something!

No, the "yes" isn't a competition for the customer, it is a competition between the companies. They could give one shit less if the consumer really wants it, nor do they give a shit that most of the consumers are workers, not business owners. No, the customer is not always right. But pitting the customer against employees allows both to be distracted by the conditions the owner sets up.

If you want less chaos then make it about crappy wages and crappy products instead of allowing corporate bullies to do that either to the consumer or employee.
