Rick Santorum warns against dangers...
April 11, 2011 at 10:53 am
...of government run health care.
http://www.coloradostatesman.com/content...-socialism
Quote:The reason Obama’s health care plan threatens the American way of life, Santorum said, is that “once the government has control over your life, over your health, it’s almost impossible to get it back, almost impossible to get freedom back.”
...The answer, Santorum said Williams told him, is that Democratic leaders knew that Americans love entitlements, and that by turning health care into an entitlement the die would be cast. “Once we get them hooked on this entitlement, they will never let it go,”
...“Think about how they view you,” he told the crowd of Republicans. “They view you no different than the drug dealer views the little kid in the school yard. They want to get you hooked, they want to get you dependent. They want to get you relying upon them for your wellbeing. And once they’ve satisfied you, giving them that drug, that narcotic, then you’ll be reliant on them and, by the way, you’ll also be less than what God created you to be.”
OK, let's map this out here. What exactly is the scenario that conservatives like him fear so much?
"Ha ha, now that you depend on us for our health care, we call the shots. Renounce Jesus and serve Satan"
"Never! Nothing could turn me from my lord"
"No health care for you then."
"Nooooooo! If only we'd stayed with our for-profit health insurance system. The free market would have never let this happen."
"...and there will be mandatory gay marriage for everyone too..."

Good luck finding a bigger waste of skin than that of Rick Santorum.
This is the asshat who wants to make sex with anyone other than your husband/wife illegal.
We are all better off just ignoring this moron.

I love the completely irrelevant god part tacked onto the end.
I'm from the UK so probably don't hear Republicans speaking speaking as often as you do, but from what I've heard they seem to do this a lot:
*Make a point*
"ALSO, JESUS!"

I just wish Libertarians would realize they're being used by the Republican party and then thrown away when it comes time to make policy (just like how the Democrats treat progressives).
Santorum is no libertarian but enough libertarians enable people like him.

The Libertarians are? Huh, because only 48% of the tea-party at a rally where Ron Paul was speaking were Libertarians, and that is with a highly skewed audience where the Ron Paul fans come out in force, the actual number of Libertarians in the tea party is probably more reflected by Ron's vote at a tea-party rally focused on Palin, Bachman etc, he got a mere 8% of the vote there.

Yeah, he's much more a tool of the religious right than anything else.

Agreed, that wasn't my point. I've noticed that libertarians frequently vote for the Republican thinking that this move will bring "less government". Since the days of Reagan saying "government IS the problem", Republicans talk a good game but don't walk it when it comes time to make policy.
Last election is a great example. Prior, they spoke of "big government" and after the election, it seems like one abortion legislation piece after another.

Sure they're being scammed, it looks even worse from the outside. At least Bush didn't lie about being "small government", the republicans need to lie it seems, otherwise they wouldn't stand a chance.
It's like your recent "Budget cut" theater, the government had already spent $50 billion in the time it took them to negotiate $39 billion in cuts - That's despite the republican voters putting in Rand Paul who proposed $500 billion in cuts...
Two party systems is a scam, you guys need MMP.

All politicians need to lie by virtue of the system they operate in.
