How would you know how happy they were? People I've known for years have shown stunned surprise when they've learned I suffer from clinical depression; how would someone on the street have any idea what I'm thinking or feeling? I don't even know what you're talking about. I'm taking about what I see everyday in our community, not India as a whole, you don't have to tell me that India in large have people with backwards mentality,their communities are more often than not in remote areas and they don't get as much as education,which we are improving. Like.. I don't even know what to say to you anymore.. I think you have this mental image that we have our women cuffed in our basements and whip them if they don't do house chores.. Like seriously, sometimes you can be wrong,you aren't right every. Single. Time.

You say women "choose to be housewives", but I think the real measure of womens' freedom is the response they get when they choose not to be.

There's also women who "choose" to wear a black curtain from head to toe and women who "choose" to stay in marriages with abusive fucked up men. Most of the time those "choices" are made because they know what might happen if they choose the alternative.

I understood it when you said they weren't forbidden to the very first time. And  the second, and the third. Promoting/encouraging women to keep their asses at home isn't the the same as forbidding. Everyone's well aware of that.

If you honestly feel that life as a pet wife in your fantasy world of luxury and opulence would be preferable to pursuing your goals in programming or software engineering, then go for it; I'm sure someone out there will manage to find you fetching enough.

Women are not forbidden to pursue their career prospects, more than often they are encouraged to. So now you know the response they get when to choose not to be housewives - encouragement.

You'll have to be more specific than that. What kind of threats you talking about? I don't understand what you mean by force either. Do you mean hardcore sex force or like rape force? Manipulation is muddy waters too. Smiling at someone so that their mood can change from sadness to happiness is also manipulation of emotion.

Like I said, be more specific, you're way too generalizing for me to give a good answer other than, "it depends on the situation".
