"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

I usually don't follow airplane vids etc, but this is pretty epic. Lol@the washing sequence with music at the end.

Some of the reasons I love this time period are Wittgenstein, logical positivism, the Vienna Circle, and the weird fiction set in this era. It's an estuary in which the ancient and modern mix, a fascinating atmosphere.

(And my atheist great-grand parents, who lived through this era and are the only members of my family that I know of who were atheists).

Aside from my own personal preferences though, this does sound like an intersting story idea.

Oh yeah, it was a fascinating time in many respects. I like the picture of an estuary, but I like estuaries in general. I even like the word, and the birds. Anyways, where was I.

Maybe I'll include some philosophical musings into the mix. It would be an interesting thought experiment what would have happened to this important movement if reality had developed differently starting in the 1870s. A Steampunk universe basically entails that "modernism" is delayed in favor of a strangely prolonged Victorian (or Wilhelmian) era, doesn't it? And what does that do to people like Popper or Frege or Wittgenstein? Very fascinating question.

Being told that the place I just got referred to for therapy doesn't treat people in my area.

Same.

I'm just saying the service is alright, but not exactly the best at times.

It certainly has its flaws but it's still one of my favorite things about the UK.
