Hence, one of modern Christianity's favorite weasel verses to explain away the false prophecy of their own god: a thousand years is but a day to God.

Yeah . . . not buying it.

I am aware of the controversy of 2 Peter. That just shows the level of scrutiny that the rest have withstood. Thanks!

It's properly basic alright....... Rolleyes

Not everyone who gets something wrong, or uses a good story to teach an important lesson...is lying, fraudulent, or dishonest.  Aesop (yay, eponyms) wasn't trying to sell anyone some shit about talking rabbits.  Perhaps you should take time to fully explore the theological significance of these stories...rather than wasting effort maintaining their historicity?

After all, it's your belief that important, it;s the theology that;s important.  If none of it happened that wouldn't change your beliefs, as you've said.  Hell, you might even be able to get yourself some of that discussion you're looking for if the subject wasn't so infantile.

WTF Steve?

You have sought out fringe theories that support your conclusion. I will stick with the 'most scholars believe...' prefix.

What fringe theories?  Pitch straw elsewhere.  Do "most scholars" believe that luke was a historian...or might that be exactly what I -just- told you it was?  Do most scholars think that Peter, James, and John are -not- literary eponyms?  What, of Paul, is the consensus view of the scholars who assign paul a measure of historicity?

Show me that you possess an ounce of knowledge, make your assertions, however vague and poorly worded...true. That's how this works. That's how we learn from and communicate with each other.

Steve, I'd be curious to know which NT scholars' books you have read.

The real religion?
Are 'basic beliefs' anything like 'basic bitches'?

The ones that say "most scholars believe that -x- " in 140 characters or less, is where I put my money.

Or baseless beliefs.

Wow, another 10 pages of just trying to establish that some events in a story book really happened. Which still has no bearing whatsoever on the question in the OP.

Even if they did happen, it makes fuck all difference right now. If 2000 years ago was the last time God favoured anyone in the correct religion, I think we can consider him irrelevant until further notice.
