That's actually the only justification I see for the insanely elaborate multimillion dollar campaigns that are standard in US presidential elections. On the face of it, they are absurdly anti-democratic, but - they show one thing, running such an endeavour is a good test-run how efficiently and reliably a potential president would organize his staff and cooperation with the departments and advisors. Trump obviously is completely incapable of organizing a respectable nationwide campaign, and this shows unambiguously that he is incapable of running the White House.
