It is hard to fathom a country that elected Obama twice will turn and elect someone like Trump. It is hard to imagine that there are enough people being swayed by Trump's bigotry, shallow thinking, outright lies, and demented conspiracy theories to put him in the White House. But, at the moment, it is hard to ignore the idea that the human race is a failed evolutionary experiment; combining a limited amount of intelligence with a knack for tool making (including weapons - our most advanced and expensive tools) and a deep and abiding tribalism. And while Trump is about as horrid a candidate as can be imagined, Clinton shares some of his most basic political and ideological foundations. They are both ardent capitalists, and are both deeply in-bedded in the corrupted political system capitalism builds. Trump boasts about his bribing of politicians. Clinton is very much a politician who is open to being bribed.

Both are war hawks. Both are ardent believers in the idea of "American exceptionalism". Ms. Clinton really is a Christian while Mr. Trump panders to the extremist of that same religion. All said and done, if it is possible for Ms. Clinton to win, it is certainly possible for Mr. Trump to win.
