Quote:I really don't see how that's a double standard. I'm saying people can criticise ideas, joke about them even, as long as people aren't being personally and viciously attacked.
Could it be that you got "attacked" by someone because they were impatient with you? You know it can get pretty frustrating dealing with this sort of thing. I have a friend on facebook who keeps telling me that Hilary funded isis and deleted some emails or something, and I got super pissed off at him too.
Quote:Your lovely SJW types you love defending regularly go on the (incredibly vicious) attack when someone says something that isn't sugar-coated to their liking, then when someone makes a mere joke or even fairly critiques some of their ideas, they want to cry victim
You should publish a scientific journal of your findings. No really though, idk how you expect to paint everyone with a broad brush like that.
Quote:That's my problem, and it's not a double standard. You're boring me now, good day.
And then you strut off acting like you won and carry your pride with you on your shoulder.
From my experience, from what I have seen going a lot of chat rooms in gaming communities, there are a lot of people who treat saying anything that sounds remotely sjw as grounds for mocking and ridicule. There's a lot of people who like laughing at shit they think is stupid, that's what a lot of the sort of entertainment you see in our culture today is, is people laughing at stuff that they think is dumb. It's also what feeds these people, are these shock videos of where they seem to get their idea of "social justice warriors" from, which is actually such an extremely myopic and damaging point of view for you to have. You get your opinions of "social justice warriors" from shock videos, and then you go around acting like you know the first thing about the world around you? This is why I can't take anti social justice warriors seriously. The whole thing is a joke and all it does is foster hatred and intolerance, just like donald trump.

I think it's mistake to believe that this is just a part of our time period.
People have been this way all throughout history. We love Teddy Roosevelt and his father for their "social justice work" at the time but boy howdy were they vilified in their own.
Also I think it's a mistake to think that social justice is largely comprised of what I like to call the "tumblr" crowd - the people YL is mentioning who go around calling people shitlords or creating superfine definitions of what they are. They're generally teenagers and have no idea WTF they're even doing yet. But they don't really make up the bulk of the collective that wants justice for women and minorities.
Also they aren't the only ones who need those superfine definitions. Lawd, don't ever call a psychic a medium, or vice versa, or clairvoyant, or "sensitive" - the paranormal industry is filled with people like this. They want a precise name so they feel validated and important. Many of these people YL is talking about want the same as well.
That's basically all humanity wants - to be validated for their feelings and existence. Once we can at least provide each other that much, I feel like we'd be able to have a better discussion about how to fix our issues.

Exactly -- let's get down to brass tacks, and let others label us as they will. If you give a shit about how others think of you, by definition, you're shopping out your self-conception.

It seems to me that a lot of people are frequenting these anti-SJW Youtube channels and looking for something to get riled up about. They're letting someone else tell them what they should care about, instead of figuring out for themselves what they think about each specific situation that they encounter.
Oh my god, it's Anita FRAUDkeesian!!! That's that thing I'm supposed to hate all the time for any reason whatsoever!!! Dislike Dislike. Thumbs down!
and I shit you not, just the mere mention of words like "gender", "trans", or "women" in a video title, or a guest speaker who just happens to be a woman with brightly colored hair or a nose ring or whatever is practically guaranteed to drop the dislike/like ratio down to 1/3 or even 1/2 on some channels, especially if it's on a popular channel where social issues are not always the focal point. I've seen this happen so many times, usually within minutes of the video being uploaded before anyone would have had time to watch the whole thing, and some will even brag that they didn't actually watch the video at all. Just skim through some of the TED talks on Youtube, and you'll be sure to run across some examples of this fairly recent phenomenon.
This Gamergate/SJW/Fem3.0 backlash bandwagon is just as obnoxious to me as the extreme examples that they cherrypick to make their points.
I am still subbed to some vocal anti-SJWs right now, Dave Rubin, Blaire White, and Jeff Holiday. I'm also subbed to some of the pro-identity politics people that they've called out in their vids, like Ashley Mardell and Milo ("gender is a performance") Stewart. But if I see someone making several videos a month criticizing the exact same person for the same thing again and again, it's time for me to unsub.
If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

Hey, EruptedCarcassBloat, welcome to the fucking forum dude/dudette! I'm a bit inebriated at this point in time so I can't offer a lot in the way of intelligent discussion. I can't even say whether I agree or disagree with you. I will say that I'm a guy who is pro-feminist. You sound like a good conversationalist in any event so I hope you stick around.

It's peculiar to me that this phenomena is so popular, because it seems to operate under the moniker of being a skeptical point of view. These points of view though are actually so counter productive, but it really had me thinking about it for a long time before I came to this final conclusion. This is part of the reason there is a cultural phenomenon of people throwing around the words "politically correct" and "social justice warrior" as a derogatory term.
Perhaps none of you interact with people like that, but there's people out there who think this way in large numbers, just look at the rise of Donald Trump. There's been a documented phenomenon in public schools, where bullying is on the rise because of people like Donald Trump's anti "politically correct" rhetoric. This is the tactic that these people use, they mock people in order to make their points, they try to make you cringe at the people they make their videos about. Just look at atheist channels on youtube, their videos aren't really focused on being informative, the general attitude in the videos is a derisive, mocking attitude.
What this attitude of mocking people does is normalize bullying behavior in cultures. It's one of the reasons why I have seen people use the word autism, I was diagnosed with aspergers, and then am told that I am being an "sjw" when I tell them that it's offensive to me. And look at the people actually making these youtube videos, they probably make a lot of money off of it, people like The Amazing Atheist and Sargon of Akkad actually make a living off of it. There's people who are profiting off of hate mongering, fear mongering, and making a living off of mocking and bullying people's vulnerabilities; normalizing that behavior.
There's a great debate that exists on the internet of a prominent anti social justice warrior commentator called Sargon of Akkad, between someone who actually studied feminism and is a feminist. I forget exactly what the video was called, but she points out how all his arguments are basically just internet sensationalism which has nothing to do with what feminism is actually all about. These tactics are really no different from the reasoning that someone would use to condone any sort of hate speech. Instead of trying to understand the thing they deride, they mock it. This leads to a culture of bullies, a culture which, instead of being sensitive to other points of view, mocks and ridicules. With no good logic besides hostile polarizing attitudes. The word Autism is offensive to you?
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

This kind of antagonist, anti-social, exploitive, wanton "assholier than thou" shit is why SJW is a derogatory term.

No. God damn. It's offensive when people call something autistic as an insult. As someone who was diagnosed with aspergers disorder I take offense to it.

This is the same thing again, just posting cringe videos so you can try to get someone to hate a whole demographic of people you call sjws.

I guess I should have specified in the OP that it offends me when people use the word autism as an insult. I see people saying stuff like "that was autistic" or "you're being so autistic" or "it was filled with autism" or whatever other way they try to use autism as an adjective. It's really offensive to me.

Boo hoo hoo. Now people are offended when they have been labeled SJW's because of their totalitarian impulses to unilaterally declare that some topics cannot be discussed, certain assumptions cannot be questioned, and some lines of inquiry should never be pursued.
There was a time when today's leftist/liberal Puritans would have defended Neo-Nazis marching through Skokie, Illinois. That Jewish neighborhood was told by the ACLU to suck it up in the name of free speech. There was a time when Leftists demanded that public dollars be spent on artworks like "Piss Christ" and BDSM photography of Mapplethorpe. Leftists had no problem offending Catholics and Evangelicals.
SJW and political correctness is every bit as hypocritical today as the Right was back then. At the end of the day they are all listening to Howard Stern and Bill Maher in private.
