The accounts in the book are taken from the diary and documents of a Jesuit priest who was involved with the exorcisms, as well as some interviews to fill in the gaps.

I know about this book, but I never read it. Jesuit priest being the operative word here. Give me something in a controlled and neutral environment and I will give it some consideration. But certainly not something by someone already having some confirmation bias.

You're missing out.  Wink

Even if you don't believe it to be a true story it's still good. Also, the boy stayed in the hospital for some time and was also treated by doctors and psychologists. Does that count?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

It's because I'm way prettier.   Big Grin

Since the film is from the early 70ies and based on a book that - naturally - was written even earlier, not really. The real breakthrough in psychology or psychiatry happened at a later point in time. Much later, actually. There are mental conditions the people in the 60ies and 70ies didn't know the first thing about.

Yeah it happened in the 1940's.

What's your favorite scary movie or book?

Favorite movie, as far as childhood memories go, Dracula, the first one with Christopher Lee. Or the Haunting, also the original one. Because it didn't actually show the scare, only hinted on it.

Books, well that would be "The Secret of Crickley Hall" by James Herbert. I can only recommend that one.

Oh man, those are some old movies. Never seen them! Haven't heard of the book but I'll look into it.

Some good horror movies I've seen recently are The Conjuring and Annabel. Have you seen them?

No. Secret of Crickley Hall however, witout saying too much about the plot, is about a family buying an old english mansion, which happened to have beena home for displaced children during the war. The story takes it from there.

Yes! Absolutely! An all-time classic!

Then there's the 1976 BBC adaptation of Dickens' "The Signalman". Check it out on Dailymotion - I'm getting chills just thinking about it.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Or The Fog. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
