It's good that those of you who profess Christianity are using reason as opposed to "revealed truths". I certainly must compliment you on that. Now, if only you could reason your way out of it...

How about wistful nostalgia as motivation for the death penalty ?
After all, without it, they wouldn't have a religion . .
And maybe for the super faithful, perhaps an unstated wish that if it comes to death by crucifixion, or some other fatal penalty, in order to save faith, or inspire faith, or to do a greater good, yeah, it might come to that.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I'm not sure what revealed truth you are referring to. The church has officially professed it's oppositionn to the dp, except for in cases where it is necessary for defense of society. Which now a days is extremely rare, if at all.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Yeah, it (or, rather, "she") has changed its/her tune. We've been through this before:

This is why Catholicism must be viewed as nothing more than a man-made religion, no different than the beliefs professed by the Aztecs and Incas; after 2,000 years, the Church cannot make-up its mind about nearly anything! By the way, Francis will be moving the Church to a more softened position on abortion here soon; in fact, he is already moving in that direction:

Question is, "Don't you have better things to do with your precious time and money?!"
