"There is a god because e = mc²"
February 16, 2017 at 5:05 pm
An apologist friend of mine said this a while back and I thought I'd pose the question here. He says, there is a god, because e=mc².
Any clue what he could be talking about? Or where he could have gotten this idea?

Probably some nonsense about god being hidden within mathematics/physics. A fairly typical shifting of the goalposts - 500 years ago he would've been saying there's a god because the Sun goes around the Earth.

Likely from one of hundreds of fringe sites that deal in apologetics.
I would counter with, "God doesn't exist because of Occam's Razor."
Not very helpful but it has more meaning that his claim.

How does he explain it?
The idea, there are many out there, google it.

I have no idea how that argument would go...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

He doesn't explain it. He is a big fan of the idea of "love" being a universal thing in Interstellar, though, and he sometimes gets into that... without ever getting back to how that explains the Biblical god.

Maybe it's proof of Star Wars?

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
