You know Void, I gotta take up issue with your definition of socialism.

Kelly-Moore Paints is a paint manufacturing company in the US. It is currently one of the fastest growing heavy hitters of US manufacturing, and is postulated by many to be a model for revitalizing US manufacturing.

It is also the largest employee owned business in the country.

Is that not socialist?

How would we maintain a system of government like this? How do you keep out the elements of "industrial interest"?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. Technically yes, but that's not the type of socialism that makes him foam at the mouth.

Pay the regulators enough that bribes & kickbacks would be an insult?

Find some of those "20% people" that won't steal no matter what & hire them?

Start handing out corporate death penalties for companies that try to engage in regulatory capture?

Wait, 20%, christ almighty, my entire plan to defraud the government and provide a living for myself depends on far more willingness to engage in corruption than a mere 80%. Back to the drawing board.

Bet the residents of Somalia are really celebrating this news! So good they probably will forget about starving now!
The capitalist miracle is about to save them......not!

I don't care. If he is going to be hyper technical on us about Capitalism, I am going to be hyper technical on "socialism".

I'm for neither -isms. I think either -ism left alone is damaging and it takes pieces of both to construct a well functioning society.

I don't think I can say with certainty that I belong to either side in this one. I have pet projects and subjects that touch upon a governments place in industry, and why long lasting and heavy handed decisions that are (sometimes) wasteful can be beneficial to society as a whole. Or how government is ideally situated to provide these services.

Here in the US it is capitalism that is causing poverty.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blog..._blog.html

Quote:A study by the Pew Research Center released Tuesday shows that the ecoonomic downturn has caused the wealth gaps between whites and minorities to grow wider than they have been in a quarter-century.

A New York Times story published Monday found that employers are now excluding the unemployed from their applicant pool.

Both reports are bad news. But the wealth gap findings are alarming in that they suggest that the economic downturn could have erased 25 years of progress.

That was a tongue-in cheek indicator that that my post is not to be taken too seriously, and recognition that my opinion is expressed more as a polemic than an argument. Too subtle? I was hoping to avoid your predictable Libertarian rhetoric,as I consider Liberarianism, like all pure political ideologies, to be deeply flawed.

Quote:The Wretched of the Earth (French: Les Damnés de la Terre, first published 1961) is Frantz Fanon's most famous work, written during and regarding the Algerian struggle for independence from colonial rule. As a psychiatrist, Fanon explored the psychological effect of colonization on the psyche of a nation as well as its broader implications for building a movement for decolonization. The original title of the book is an allusion to the opening words of The Internationale.
