I don't know that the weapon is specifically meant to kill dragons. But any spear can be used as a projectile... not sure why he didn't use that shit earlier, trying to snipe Jon with it.

So the big bad ice lords have a weapon specially designed to kill dragons... interesting...
If the dragons aren't going to be the ones taking them out... then only Valyrian Steel can do it.... ooohhh.... the scorpion!
Betting you are onto something.
Tyrion will fire Cercei's scorpion atop Dany's dragon with a bolt made by gendry of reworked steel from Jon's longclaw, Arya's dagger and Sam's ancestrial sword, skewering the nightking and making all the wight's go down phantom menace style.
It would be all everyone could ever ask for.
And so damn unsatisfying
Hey, Geore RR Martin did say the ending would be bittersweet.

I could buy the conceit of having to go get a whitewalker to show people south of the wall. The absurd thing to me was that winter has come to the North, everyone is saying it will be the worst winter in living memory... and the ice on a river north of the wall is thin enough to crack when a handful of dudes walk on it? And break under the weight of a dead army?
Nuh-uh. Not buying it.
The ice would be 12 fucking feet thick.
Dragons? Sure.
Army of the dead? Totally.
That ice breaking? No fucking way.

I hate when plots move forward because one character doesn't ask the other character the obvious question or makes an obviously stupid assumption.
That being said, the end was epic.

Plans within plans. The Night King can warg, it was convenient that one White Walker remained for capture. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was engineered to get him a dragon. And Jon was the perfect bait.

I don't feel like it blows. It's still a good show for me, but it's definitely lost the tension that made it so interesting early on. It's like when you're in a haunted house and the staff and groups behind you sort of push you through it so fast you don't have time to feel anything. However . . . I had some real feels when I thought Tormund was about to croak. They really pushed it to the point where you figured he was a goner.

I'm not buying that. Unless he could read minds and see that Dany was coming with three dragons then he wouldn't have known that she would show up to rescue the party with them. I would think he saw the dragons when Dany showed up with them and thought "Hey, I'd like me one of those" and made it happen.

The interesting bit is... how did the Night King know that his spear would kill the dragon?
He's old... he may have done that before, in the age of the Targaryen dragons... but why doesn't he have some old zombie-dragon?
Also, Viserion got a nasty blow to the underside. Those zombies don't heal... holes remain holes.... that will not be very good for aerodynamic purposes. Actually, fast air moving will only open that hole up more and more.
How much of a cliffhanger are we expecting for the season finale?

A pretty big one.
I think Jon and Dany find out he's a Rhaegar's son to end the season.

Bran can see the future, and he and the Night King are connected. I suspect that whatever Bran can do, the Night King can do.
