They all agree with me.

Except Carl.

But Carl's a prick and no one pays any attention to him.

Been having heart palpatations. Nothing serious, but with my history I need to get it checked out.

About to put my kid to bed.
I'll be back in 15 minutes or 3 hrs, depending on who falls asleep first. :-)

Spent the last 45 minutes rearranging my living room in one corner and on one wall. Moved the cat tree to a corner of the room so the kitties can access it better. I had been using it as a table for my monitor and some papers, but I finally moved everything, cleaned up the clutter and reorganized that area. I feel better now. Out of breath, but I actually finished something I started for once.

I like soccer when the teams have talented players.  Unfortunately, being up in Revs land, the games are boring/frustrating to watch.  It's just 90+ minutes of bad passes, bad decisions, a complete lack of cohesion....

I think all of this is why I'm a pretty big hockey fan.  Lots of action (even if some games get choppy with whistles/penalties, it's not really much different than a glut of free kicks/out-of-bounds with some soccer matches), lots of skill (the NHL is moving away from clutching/grabbing and talentless goons fighting each other to a much faster game based on offense), few ad breaks compared to everything except soccer (typically just 2-3/period), and every goal is meaningful.

Hockey is hard to watch on TV for me but I love going to games in person.  There's a distance between the players and frenetic action of the game when it's on TV whereas in person you can hear the "shuck, shuck, shuck!" of the blades on the ice, the slap of the stick on the puck, the ping of the puck on the cross bar when it juuuuust misses....  This is why I can watch movies about hockey (The Mighty Ducks!!!) and love it (because they get the sound mix right) but not be so hot on live games which sound flat.

Also, I grew up with a best friend who played hockey, cousins who played hockey, and one cousin who played for the minor leagues for a while.

Basketball is similar to me - fun to watch in person, not so great on TV.  But given the choice, I'd pick hockey over basketball.  Again with the dad quotes, his opinion of pro basketball is that they favor high-scoring games more than they favor playing defense so the answer to an opposing team scoring on them isn't "defend their hoop better" it's "score three more baskets."  I can see how that's frustrating for fans of the sport.

And I agree with c172 - if your local women's NWSL team is the Boston Breakers you're in for a rough time.  They're not bottom of the barrel, but it's also not by much that they missed out on that title.  I'd really love to see the Breakers, Spirit and Dash get their acts together a little more and make the league that much more competitive.  For as great as it is having the Thorns get to the playoffs, I'd prefer a more competitive league where the same 4-5 teams didn't always swallow up the top rankings.

Deploy ahead.

I worked in MILSATCOM for many years. We had to depend on LMA and Boeing, later ULA, for launch vehicles. SpaceX got a lot of people from those companies, and are beating the pants off them boys with that rocket that can return to a launch pad and be recycled for launch in 48 hours. Both things were just unheard of until they did it. And they're doing it for a fraction of the cost.

Sounds kind of like a Challenger waiting to happen.  48 hours to turn around a vehicle that can literally propel a human out of the Earth's atmosphere... not a rocket I'd want to get on board.

Does this mean your cats can finally get their butts off the couch and lay in their cat tree? Tongue  Mine loooooove both of theirs.

Just had a conversation with my religious coworker about why space is cold which turned into a conversation about colloquial terms versus scientific terms, I mentioned Lawrence Krauss's A Universe from Nothing and how "Nothing" has a colloquial meaning versus a scientific meaning and that turned the conversation to science and philophy...

And it's not even 8am!

Maybe I should read up on the Socratic Method a bit more so I can use it with him...

@CM, I didn't even know we have a NWSL team up here. They are, literally, ignored. Which is a shame. While the USMNT may suck, the women have been steadily awesome for a pretty long while. They, and their pro contemporaries, really deserve more coverage.

If you live anywhere near the Breaker's field (they don't really have a stadium by the looks of their broadcasts - and yes I know New England is a big place and you're not necessarily close Wink ) I'd recommend you go check them out. They might not be an awesome team but you can see the teams they play... Tongue
