Hangul and the way syllables are formed is quite rational once you get the hang of the sounds. I "know" about twenty letters so far -- at least to the extent that I can look at a word composed of just them and sound it out more or less correctly (assuming I don't misread a character, as above). Again, a couple of the vowels I've learned are still tricky for me and the websites I've looked at just confuse me more (and the Romanization of Korean is a damn nightmare). I'm never quite sure if I'm pronouncing 어 correctly.

Where the hell is Drich when I actually need him for something?

Close. Replace the "y" with an "i" Wink

Also - You may already know this but the letter O in Hangul is a place holder. I'll have to get specifics from my girl on Wednesday, but if you need help, I can always ask her.

Yep, it's a place holder as in 아이 (ah-ee). But it is an "ng" if at the end of a syllable like 안녕 (ahn-yeong). The presence of ㄴ in the second syllable seems as though it should be pronounced, in addition to the one immediately preceding it, but a young lady on one of the sites I looked at was quite insistent that the syllables should run together and the two 'n's should not be pronounced separately.

I don't know. Perhaps Drich can set me straight.

If I'm correct, ahn-yeong means hello.

Gumsumnida (just go with the phonetic spelling. I'm not as advanced with it as you are Wink

Me three, at least tonight/day.  I've slept no more than 2 or 3 hours.  Ugh.  Drank so much coffee this morning while doing a lot of socializing.  I think both those things get me wired.  Oh yeah, then I went to the opening of show in town my wife has a couple of pieces in and was hyper social some more.  No wonder I didn't sleep.  So so many people from the past including a former student returning from several years in Kenya who had just started a phd program at Cal.  Bet I would sleep better if I honored my hermit proclivities.
